Hurts Props: -115 To Start A Game, +8000 To Win Rookie Of The Year

One of the biggest surprises of the 2020 NFL Draft was that the Philadelphia Eagles selected Jalen Hurts in the second round. It raised a lot of questions about the future of the team and their direction as they had mostly talked about getting franchise quarterback Carson Wentz some help. Instead, they got him a backup?
Almost all the football world was confused and more questions have been raised since. Is Hurts going to be used as a gadget weapon? When will Hurts make his first official NFL start? Could he win Rookie of the Year? Could he lead the Eagles to the playoffs?
BetOnline has a number of props on Hurts, so let’s take a closer look at the situation:
EAGLES DRAFT HURTS 53RD OVERALL
When the Eagles drafted Hurts, it left a lot of fans wondering. Many fans believed that the Eagles would get more offensive firepower to help Wentz – especially since Wentz was hung out to dry at the end of the season. If not the offense, then surely the Eagles would get some help for the secondary, right? After all, they were torched most of last season.
Hurts could be a great prospect with potential, it makes you wonder what this team is doing because they’re so close to a Super Bowl. Maybe one or two more pieces and they’re in the running; instead, they opt for a backup quarterback? For a team that was lacking in a lot of different areas, it raises the question on why they pulled the trigger on such a high quarterback prospect instead of grabbing a piece for their secondary or even an explosive offensive weapon. Even if the Eagles were just looking for a backup quarterback for some insurance, they had more options in free agency and even in the later rounds of the draft to pick up a backup.
Will Hurts help them in 2020 more than an edge rusher like A.J. Epensa, who went one pick later, or wideout Denzel Mims, who went six selections later? A cornerback like Kristian Fulton was also available, as was linebacker Willie Gay. The Eagles had so many other options and it’s hard to make the case they’ll be better with Hurts than any of the aforementioned players.
WILL HURTS START A GAME?
ODDS: -125 NO, -115 YES
The first Hurts prop focuses on if he’ll start a game. The only way he could start this season if Wentz were to get injured again or if the Eagles were well below .500 and were desperate to win. Wentz has played the full 16-game regular season twice in his four years, but he has missed plenty of playoff games in his young career. A potential injury would then open the door for Hurts to take the field and start in his first game.
WILL HURTS WIN ROOKIE OF THE YEAR?
ODDS: +8000
Hurts could potentially win Rookie of the Year, but the odds are very slim. While there is a chance he could pull it off, it would require a lot of lucky breaks. The first would be if Wentz gets either injured or if Eagles head coach Doug Pederson makes a drastic change and benches or trades Wentz. Trading or benching Wentz would not make much sense as Wentz was drafted to be their franchise quarterback not too long ago and is being paid to be the franchise. Even if one of those happen, Hurts would have to outplay other possible stars who are going to have better situations than him – guys like Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Kanss City.
Ultimately, it’s a real stretch to see Hurts bring home Rookie of the Year. He would need a stellar year stat-wise along with bringing the Eagles into the playoffs to have a possibility to win the award.
