Odds To Make & Miss The Playoffs Posted For All Four AFC East Teams

With so much activity in the offseason, this AFC East is going to be quite fascinating this year. Long known as one of the most predictable divisions, the New England Patriots’ grip on the top spot is suddenly in peril as Tom Brady has moved on. Are the Buffalo Bills or New York Jets good enough to wrest control or will Bill Belichick and company still find a way?

With that in mind, let’s dive right into the playoff odds for the AFC East teams this season.

Buffalo Bills

Odds To Make Playoffs: -225

Odds To Make Playoffs: +185

The Buffalo Bills look to make a run at the division this year. They went into the offseason with a few clear needs and were able to fill those holes very nicely. Their biggest move was the trade for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs in exchange for their first, fifth, and sixth round picks from the 2020 NFL Draft. They also got a lot of depth on their defensive line that was a needed addition as well and even picked up former All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman. With all of those moves, the Bills should be in prime position to return to the playoffs.

Although they do have some tough games against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Seattle Seahawks, the schedule isn’t daunting. It will help that Brady is gone as the Bills have had trouble with the Patriots over the years.

Miami Dolphins

Odds To Make Playoffs: -500

Odds To Make Playoffs: +400

A lot of people have given the Dolphins lots of credit with what they’ve done with their roster. They began to improve late last year and loaded up in free agency and the NFL Draft. Signings like Kyle Van Noy and Byron Jones will provide veteran quality to a young roster while drafting Tua Tagovailoa, Austin Jackson and Noah Igbinoghene bolsters the young core.

They have some difficult matchups this season against the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers but otherwise, a good chance to compete all season long. They’re probably not a playoff team but they are on the rise. They went 5-4 in their final nine games last season.

New York Jets

Odds To Make Playoffs: -475

Odds To Make Playoffs: +380

The Jets haven’t had the best offseason. They had a lot of holes to fill going into this offseason and might have even more holes coming out of it. They attempted to fill holes on the offensive line by signing Greg Van Roten, Connor McGovern, and George Fant but all three of them are below average players and not anywhere near top talent in the league. The drafting of Mekhi Becton should help, though. The team badly need an offensive line as they have a young quarterback in Sam Darnold who was “seeing ghosts” in the backfield after being sacked too many times and a star running back Le’Veon Bell wasn’t able to find any running room. However, the team has alienated Adams – arguable their best defensive player, who has demanded a trade – and have all sorts of questions at wide receiver. The team also appears to be losing faith in head coach Adam Gase.

New England Patriots

Odds To Make Playoffs: -185

Odds To Make Playoffs: +160

Obviously, the biggest talk around the Patriots for this offseason has been the loss of Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. They have also lost Rob Gronkowski because even though he was retired, he was still a member of the Patriots organization if he decided to return to play. That isn’t all, though, as they also lost players such as Phillip Dorsett, Kyle Van Noy, Danny Shelton, Jamie Collins, and Elandon Roberts. Typically, Coach Belichick just reloads and finds other value with veterans, but these losses are noteworthy.

The main question here is whether Jarrett Stidham – or whoever starts at quarterback – can do enough with this offense? They had holes even with Brady under center and now have even more questions. They’ve gone from being the steadiest bet to make the playoffs to being a big question mark.
