CRAZY NFL PARLAY WEEK TWO

BY ADAM GREENE

It’s that time again where we peruse the odds, start linking games and dream of hitting it big with a minimal financial risk.

Last week’s attempt to cash in that lottery ticket was a bust, but we were in the ballpark. Of the eight games we needed to hit to get the big payoff, we got four of them and were close on two more. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to shoot a little lower this week. Not so low as to not toss a nice addition to our future Scrooge McDuck money bin, but we’re thinking more of an ankle deep pile of cash, not a full story.

Here are the games I’ve selected for your consideration for Week Two.

WEEK TWO CRAZY PARLAY

Rams +100

Panthers +290

Falcons +185

Texans +275

Patriots +172

Raiders +195

That’s a good looking set right there. The Los Angeles Rams were actually favored against the Philadelphia Eagles all week at -1 until Friday when it flipped. It’s still a one-point game, so to get plus money on the moneyline is a gift.

If you’ve read this week’s Friday Afternoon Quarterback and Monday Night Football preview, you know I’ve already picked the Rams to now upset the Eagles and the Las Vegas Raiders to upset the New Orleans Saints as they debut their new stadium. I feel good about both those picks.

But now we have to talk ourselves into the rest of them. And, hey, it’s the NFL. Any given Sunday and all that.

The Panthers are traveling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and currently sit at -8.5 underdogs. Tampa played pretty bad last week, both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will probably be out with injuries, and Tom Brady is 43. Last week he looked it.

Carolina, on the other hand, displayed a solid offense in their shootout loss to Las Vegas and another 30-point effort in Tampa might be enough to steal a victory there.

As for the Atlanta Falcons, if you can’t see a scenario where Julio Jones, in spite of his hamstring woes, and Matt Ryan can’t come out on fire, you lack imagination.

The Houston Texans, top to bottom, are a better team than the Baltimore Ravens. They’re also playing at home, whatever that means in these fanless times. If you took their coaches out of the picture, you’d have no trouble picking the Texans to win this one. And sometimes Deshaun Watson and J.J. Watt can do just that, take their coach out of the picture.

After that, a New England Patriots win anywhere at any time could hardly be a surprise. Cam Newton didn’t come close to unleashing the beast against the Miami Dolphins last week and the team cruised. It could happen.

And if it does, a $20 bet pays off $13,358.11 and that’ll buy you a brand new 2021 See Doo GTX watercraft with Bluetooth audio system included. Your own personal water vehicle that will allow you to enjoy the final month of summer while spraying any lake-lounging COVID-19 plague rat in the face with your jet splash as you cruise away anytime they get within coughing distance.
