MNF PREVIEW: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

BY ADAM GREENE

As much grief as I’ve given the NFL schedulers for their Monday Night Football slate over the last few years, in 2020 they seemed to have made an honest attempt to at least give us a solid match for most of the 16 scheduled games. Unfortunately, the NFC East didn’t cooperate.

In fact, it’s the NFC East that has been and continues to be responsible for the worst MNF match ups this year. Week 12 is no different as the Seattle Seahawks travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (+5, O/U: 49)

Location: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pa.

Kickoff: Nov. 30, 8:15 p.m. EST

Broadcast: ESPN

THE HISTORY

In spite of the Seahawks being in the NFL since 1976, this will just be the 19th meeting between them and the Eagles. Seattle currently holds an 11-7 advantage in the series and has won six straight going back to Dec. 1, 2011.

They’ve squared off one time in the playoffs, which just so happens to be the last time they faced each other. The Seahawks downed the Eagles 17-9 in last year’s NFC Wild Card round on Jan. 5. Russell Wilson finished 18 of 30 for 325 yards and a touchdown. He added 45 yards rushing. Carson Wentz was 1 of 4 for three yards when he was knocked from the game and replaced by Josh McCown. McCown ended with 174 yards passing in the losing effort.

D.K. Metcalf caught seven passes for 160 yards and a TD.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (7-3)

The Seahawks come into this game after halting a two game losing streak with a 28-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals last week. Wilson threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns with no picks. Carlos Hyde had 79 yards on the ground and a TD. Tyler Lockett led the way receiving with 67 yards and a score. Metcalf, after being held to next to nothing the week before against the Los Angeles Rams, had three catches for 46 yards and a TD.

Defensively, Seattle held Arizona to just 57 yards on the ground and sacked Kyler Murray three times.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (3-6-1)

The Eagles embarrassment parade made the trip to Cleveland last week to lose 22-17, in a game that had to be downright cathartic to the Browns, as they have been in Philly’s shoes many times before.

Wentz ended the game 21 of 35 for 235 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and he was sacked five times. Dallas Goedert was his favorite receiving target, hauling in five passes for 77 yards and a TD.

THE PICK

Thanks to being in the NFC East, Philadelphia can take control of the division with a win and in spite of the horrible season they’re having, still finish with a winning record. This is really what everybody wants as no one wants to see some 5-6 win team host a playoff game. The problem is, Seattle is just too good and not only are they still playing for an NFC West title, they’re just a game back in the home field advantage/first round bye sweepstakes too. Seahawks 34, Eagles 23
