Historically, the SEC has been known for its defense. However, that’s not the case this season. Only Georgia is playing solid defense as every other contender is posting prodigious offensive numbers. That includes both the Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide. One of the quarterbacks in this game is extremely likely to win the Heisman Trophy according to the NCAA Futures odds, while the other is probably going to finish runner-up.
The 2020 SEC Championship Game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Florida +17
Alabama -17
Total 74.5
Alabama has been the best team in the nation by a mile in 2020. The Crimson Tide have won every game by at least 15 points, and they dismantled ranked teams like Texas A&M, Georgia, and Auburn. That’s why Alabama is a massive favorite over Florida in this game.
As for the Gators, they lost a shootout to the Aggies in College Station, and they were stunned at home by LSU last week. Florida’s best win came in Jacksonville against rival Georgia, but there isn’t another solid victory on this slate.
Alabama Offense vs. Florida Defense
Mac Jones is out to become the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in school history. There have been a lot of greats to come through Tuscaloosa, but none have ever been awarded the nation’s top honor. Jones is completing 76.4 percent of his passes for 3,321 yards (11.7 YPA) with 27 touchdowns and three interceptions. His production is insane considering Alabama lost Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III to the NFL last year and Jaylen Waddle suffered a season-ending injury in mid-October after compiling at least 120 receiving yards in his first four games.
Devonta Smith has been one of the best receivers in the country this year. Smith has 83 receptions for 1,327 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is twice as productive as the second-best receiver on the Crimson Tide (John Metchie III), and those numbers have him one of the frontrunners to win the Biletnikoff Award.
The ground game has been fantastic for the last decade. Najee Harris is the latest great running back to come to Alabama, and he has over 1,000 yards with 22 touchdowns. Harris is averaging 5.9 YPC, and he still has fresh legs since the Crimson Tide continue to blow out opponents.
Florida does not have a good defense. Todd Grantham is probably going to be let go at the end of the season, as his propensity to send pressure has burned the Gators far too often. This defense is allowing 26.3 PPG and 384.7 YPG, and the front seven is banged up coming into Saturday.
Florida Offense vs. Alabama Defense
It’s been an incredible year for Kyle Trask. Trask is completing over 70 percent of his passes for 10.1 YPA with 40 touchdowns and five interceptions, and he was the Heisman frontrunner until last week. His rise to prominence over the last year has been remarkable, and he is now projected to go in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.
Dameon Pierce leads Florida with 441 yards (4.7 YPC), but the Gators’ ground game isn’t anything special. As a team, Florida is averaging just 4.2 YPC with most of their damage being done through the air.
Tight end Kyle Pitts is one of the most dangerous players in the country. He has 36 receptions for 641 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he should be able to return in this game after missing last week’s game to LSU due to injury. Kadarius Toney leads Florida with 62 receptions for 831 yards and nine scores, while Trevon Grimes has 34 catches for 511 yards and eight TDs.
Alabama’s defense isn’t as stout as it has been in previous seasons, but the Crimson Tide are loaded with talent. They are ranked 11th in scoring defense (16.8 PPG) and 24th in total defense (340.1 YPG), yet they might not have Christian Harris available.
Prediction
This is going to be a rout. Florida has yet to face a team anything close to where Alabama is this season, and the Gators will get smashed.
