MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: NEW YORK GIANTS AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

When you get a dud of a game like this on Monday Night Football, it usually makes sense in that it’s a match up between two teams everyone expected to be good. So I don’t know how you explain the presence of the New York Giants on MNF as they travel to Arrowhead to take on the shockingly bad Kansas City Chiefs.

Of course, everyone thought the Chiefs would be great. Why wouldn’t they? They made two straight Super Bowls, three consecutive AFC Championship games and still had Patrick Mahomes in his prime. We were wrong, obviously. Kansas City is in the midst of a solid Super Bowl hangover and if they can’t get something stitched together over the next month, they could miss the postseason entirely.

The Giants, on the other hand, were at best a sub .500 team. So the idea that the MNF schedulers selected this game when they could have nabbed a Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns or a Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts makes no sense to me.

This will just be the 15^th meeting between the two franchises, with New York holding a surprising 11-3 advantage. Their last game was in 2017, a year before Mahomes took over as KC’s starter. New York won 12-9 in overtime with Eli Manning outdueling Alex Smith in a game that saw just one touchdown scored.

NEW YORK GIANTS (2-5)

After losing two consecutive games against a couple of the NFC’s best teams, the Giants got a break last week and made the most of it, knocking off the Carolina Panthers 25-3. Daniel Jones finished 23 of 33 for 203 yards and a touchdown. Devonte Booker rushed 14 times for 51 yards and a TD. Darius Slayton caught five passes for 63 yards. New York’s defense picked off Sam Darnold once, sacked him three times and held Carolina to just 56 total yards rushing.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (3-4)

While the Chiefs dropped two of their first three games, you could at least tell yourself they were close, one score finals against two sure fire AFC Playoff teams. Their last two losses, weren’t close at all. A week ago they were dominated to the tune of 27-3 by the Tennessee Titans. Mahomes threw his ninth pick of the season and no touchdowns before he was knocked from the game. He was sacked four times. There was no running game to speak of for KC as Mahomes led the team with six carries for 35 yards.

THE PICK

This game won’t fix what’s wrong with Kansas City, but if they drop it, it can ruin them for good. The spread either shows the books still respect Andy Reid and Mahomes or have none for Jones and Joe Judge. Either way, I agree with it. Chiefs 31, Giants 20
