There are four teams on bye in Week 10 of the 2021 NFL season. However, fantasy owners aren’t too hurt this week as three of those teams (Chicago, Houston, and the New York Giants) are among the worst offenses in the league. Cincinnati is the only team with a good offense that won’t be playing this week.
Kirk Cousins (QB) – Minnesota Vikings
It’s been nearly a month since Kirk Cousins threw for more than 200 yards in a game. He torched Carolina’s defense in Week 6, but he was not great in losses to Dallas and Baltimore the last two weeks. Cousins has two good receivers in Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, yet he has not put up the big numbers that some were hoping for in 2021. It’s unlikely he will play well this week too, as the Los Angeles Chargers have a very good secondary headlined by Chris Harris, Derwin James, and Asante Samuel. Additionally, Mike Zimmer is now the favorite to be the first coach fired, so the locker room situation is probably not great.
James Conner (RB) – Arizona Cardinals
Everyone seems to love James Conner as a fantasy option this week. Chase Edmonds is out, and Conner is expecting to see the bulk of the work against the Carolina Panthers. However, Conner is averaging just 3.9 YPC and doesn’t have the speed to break off many long runs. He has fumbled twice in 115 carries, and Carolina ranks second in total defense. Eno Benjamin could take carries away from Conner too, so don’t expect him to have the big performance many believe will happen on Sunday.
D.J. Moore (WR) – Carolina Panthers
Carolina’s offense has completely collapsed over the last month. The Panthers looked like a dark horse Super Bowl contender after the first three weeks of the season, but Sam Darnold has thrown eight interceptions in the past five games and was placed on injured reserve on Friday. P.J. Walker will replace him, and he has not looked good in relief. D.J. Moore was one of the top receivers in the NFC, but he might not see many targets with Walker under center.
Pat Freiermuth (TE) – Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh fans have fallen in love with rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth. Comparisons have already been made to Heath Miller, and he has been targeted 20 times over the last three weeks. However, defenses are starting to get wise to Ben Roethlisberger looking his way. Freiermuth is averaging just 9.1 YPR on the season, and Detroit has had two weeks to prepare for a Pittsburgh passing attack that isn’t good.
New Orleans Saints (D/ST)
The Saints have been one of the best defenses in the NFL through the first half of the season. However, we have seen this secondary struggle mightily against Tampa Bay and Atlanta in the last two weeks. Tennessee has receivers that can punish these defensive backs, while the New Orleans offense will leave the defense on the field far too much given its struggles without the retired Drew Brees.
