MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS AT WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

BY ADAM GREENE

Well, I am not sure what we did as a society to deserve this, but here we are. In a season where Monday Night Football is part of the NFL flex scheduling, they have decided to lean in hard, cursing us with the Seattle Seahawks traveling to the Washington Football Team.

Where they could have flexed the Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Indianapolis Colts or Tennessee Titans at New England Patriots here with little trouble, they’ll instead deliver the nameless franchise going against a team that could very well see its head coach sent out to pasture and its quarterback traded away at season’s end.

This will be just the 22nd overall meeting between the two squads, with Washington holding a 12-9 lead in the series. They last played a year ago on Dec. 20, 2020 with Seattle winning 20-15. Russell Wilson threw for 121 yards, a touchdown and a pick in the win. Dwayne Haskins, now somewhere lost on the Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart, was good for 295 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

Location: FedEx Field, Landover, Md.

Broadcast: ESPN

Kickoff: Nov. 29, 8:15 p.m.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (3-7)

With their postseason hopes on the line, at home and hosting an Arizona Cardinals team starting its back up quarterback, the Seahawks promptly lifted their leg and knocked themselves out with their own deviled egg farts. Wilson threw for 207 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the 23-13 loss and was sacked four times. After Pete Carroll’s declaration that Seattle needed to run the ball more, they reeled off a total of 19 carries for 86 yards and TD between Wilson and four running backs. The defense did sack McCoy twice, but he carved them up for 328 yards and two touchdowns.

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (4-6)

As much as it’d be great to go ahead and dismiss the WFT at this point, they won’t let us. Last week, they knocked off the surging Carolina Panthers 27-21 a week after upsetting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 29-19. Taylor Heinicke was 16 of 22 passing for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Antonio Gibson rushed 19 times for 95 yards and Terry McLaurin caught five passes for 103 yards and a score. WFT’s defense sacked Cam Newton once and held Carolina to just 111 yards and a TD on the ground.

THE PICK

At some point, you just have to throw your hands up and surrender. It’s a trick of the NFL as a sport to fool you with a team or a player’s past performance, making you believe they can turn it on and right the ship. It does happen. You have to look no farther than the Kansas City Chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes is much younger than Wilson. I think this is just it for Seattle’s run and it’s time for a new coach and maybe a QB trade to rebuild. WFT 23, Seahawks 20
