This is either the first week of the fantasy playoffs or the last week of the regular season for almost every fantasy league. It’s the most important week of the season for fantasy football purposes, so it’s important to know who you should and who you should sit. Below is a list of players to avoid if you want to potentially win your league.
Carson Wentz (QB) vs. New England Patriots
Indianapolis has won four of its last five games, but Carson Wentz is not playing well. In the Colts’ last four games, he has only thrown for 180 yards or more one time, and he has only thrown more than one touchdown once too. Wentz is averaging just over 6.0 YPA in that stretch, and now he has to take on an elite New England defense. The Patriots have a top three pass defense, allowing opponents to complete 58.6% of their passes for 5.9 YPA and lead the league in interception rate.
Miles Sanders (RB) vs. Washington Football Team
Miles Sanders is coming off his best performance of the season. He ran for 120 yards in the win over the New York Jets two weeks ago, and he has averaged 5.0 YPC or better in each of his last five starts. However, Sanders has been slowed by an ankle injury, and he has yet to run for a touchdown this season. This offense asks for Jalen Hurts to run the ball often, and if Gardner Minshew starts under center, he is likely to throw the ball more than usual.
Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR) vs. Arizona Cardinals
We’ve seen Amon-Ra St. Brown play very well for Detroit the last two weeks. St Brown has 18 receptions for 159 yards and a touchdown in that time, and he caught the game-winning touchdown in the Lions’ lone win of the season. It’s likely that St. Brown takes a back seat in his role this week though. T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift might both suit up for Detroit, and the Lions are facing one of the fastest defenses in the NFL in Arizona.
Kyle Pitts (TE) at San Francisco 49ers
The top tight end in the 2021 NFL Draft was Kyle Pitts. The rookie was expected to be a revelation in Atlanta, and he is the leading receiver for the Falcons. Pitts hasn’t been targeted more than seven times in a game in two months though, and he hasn’t found the end zone since Week 5. San Francisco is superb at stopping tight ends, so Pitts could be in line for a poor outing.
Seattle Seahawks (D/ST) at Los Angeles Rams
The most fortunate defense in the NFL this season has been Seattle. The Seahawks are fifth in scoring defense (20.2 PPG), but they rank dead last in total defense (394.9 YPG). They are allowing more passing yards than any other team in the league, and Matthew Stafford has the potential to torch this secondary even without Odell Beckham Jr. available for the Rams.
