2022 Mountain West Conference Tournament Betting Odds

We might see four teams from the Mountain West Conference make it to the NCAA Tournament. It’s been a banner year for the MWC as Boise State, Colorado State, and Wyoming have all stepped up beside San Diego State to make this conference the seventh-best in the country despite down years from Utah State, Nevada, and New Mexico. ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently has all four of those teams in the NCAA Tournament before the start of the MWC Tournament, but Wyoming is firmly on the bubble.

The 2022 Mountain West Conference Tournament has almost always been held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada. This year’s tournament will run from March 9-12, and it figures to be one of the most competitive conference tournaments in recent years. San Diego State and Utah State have met in the last three MWC Finals, but that is very unlikely to happen this time.

San Diego State has been to the MWC Championship Game four straight times. The Aztecs are 2-2 in that stretch, but that recent success has led to the oddsmakers pinning them as the favorite despite being the No. 3 seed. They are the top ranked team in the conference according to Ken Pomeroy, as this is the second-best defense in the country. Unfortunately, the offense has held the Aztecs back all year, and Matt Bradley is the only player you can trust to consistently score.

The Boise State Broncos are known for their dominance in football, but Leon Rice has made this program respectable during his 12 years. Boise State is set to make its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and the Broncos are hoping to finally get their first win. They have proven they belonged with wins over Santa Clara and Washington State, and they swept San Diego State in the regular season. They are known for their defense too, and the first meeting between the Broncos and Aztecs resulted in a total of 79 points being scored.

Niko Medved has turned Colorado State into a burgeoning contender in the MWC. The Rams have consistently improved under his watch, and they could win the MWC Championship for the first time since 2003. Colorado State finished the season 24-4 with wins over Saint Mary’s, Creighton, Mississippi State, and Bradley in non-conference play. Unlike the rest of the MWC, the Rams have a very good offense. David Roddy is one of the top guards in the nation, averaging 19.5 PPG and 7.6 RPG while making 57.5% of his field goals and 46.2% of his threes.

Wyoming went 24-7 this season, but a relatively soft non-conference schedule means that the Cowboys need to win at least a game in the MWC Tournament. However, they will be underdogs to UNLV, as the Rebels are playing at home and beat the Cowboys last week.
