Some believe that the National League West is the most talented division in all of baseball and for good reason. They saw two teams surpass the 100-win mark a year ago with another underperforming and still nabbing 79 wins of their own. This season isn’t going to be any different, though it is clear that this division title race is between just three teams.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Odds: -150
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to be division favorites yet again this upcoming season. They have clearly established themselves as the team to beat in the MLB. They have a lot of cash to spend on free agents, a stellar farm system and an excellent approach to the game when it comes to coaching and preparation. They didn’t win the division last season despite grabbing 106 wins, but with guys like Mookie Betts, Walker Buhler and Julio Urias on your roster, you can expect great things moving forward.
San Diego Padres
Odds: +200
If there is any team in the league to constantly make life difficult for the Dodgers, it’s the San Diego Padres. San Diego is led by Fernando Tatis, one of the best and most notable players in the league today. Surprisingly, they only won 79 games a season ago. However, Yu Darvish, Chris Paddack and Blake Snell are just a few of the players that make this team look stellar on paper. On top of that, they let go of Jayce Tingler to grab Bob Melvin, a huge upgrade on the roster. They are unpredictable, but star power suggests that they will be competitive in this race.
San Francisco Giants
Odds: +600
The San Francisco Giants were the team to somehow walk away as division winners with 107 victories last year. Nobody saw it coming. They don’t have superstar talent spread across their roster but this is a team that never backs down, regardless of their opponent. San Francisco also snagged Kris Bryant from the Chicago Cubs at the deadline last year but it didn’t help them out. It’s going to be hard to recapture that magic they just had, but it is certainly doable.
Colorado Rockies
Odds: +10000
This is where the division gets a lot simpler. The Colorado Rockies are likely not going to be competitive at all in this divisional race. They lost Jon Gray and Trevor Story recently to make their roster worse while maintaining very little depth across their roster. This also hasn’t been a super exciting spot for free agents to flock to because of them possibly nearing a rebuild.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Odds: +10000
The Arizona Diamondbacks are in a very rough spot right now. They tied for the worst record in the league last season at 52-110. This is a group that seems very much in the middle of a rebuild here more than anything, which makes it ridiculously hard to believe that they will even come close to the Dodgers, Padres and Giants. The youngsters on the roster have an opportunity to get this team some more wins, though it still won’t be enough to change their fate in the West.
