UFC 274 Parlay

Two UFC belts will be on the line at UFC 274 on Saturday night. Charles Oliveira will defend his UFC Lightweight Championship against Justin Gaethje, and Rose Namajunas will put her UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship on the line when she takes on Carla Esparza. Other popular fighters like Michael Chandler and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone will also be in action as well.

UFC 274 will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The preliminary fights will get underway at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+, while the main card will only be available on PPV through ESPN+ starting at 10 p.m. ET.

UFC 274 Picks

Charles Oliveira by Submission +135 vs. Justin Gaethje

Although Charles Oliveira is a relatively new champion, only claiming the title last year against Michael Chandler at UFC 262, he has already made history. Oliveira owns the UFC record for most finishes (18) and most submission wins (15) in a career, so it’s only natural to go with him to beat challenger Justin Gaethje by submission.

Gaethje is a strong fighter, and he has only been submitted once in his career. That came at UFC 254 against the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he is largely a knockout specialist with 19 of his 23 career wins coming by KO. Only three of his 26 fights have gone the distance, and it’s hard to imagine that this bout will last all five rounds. He doesn’t have a great ground game, so Oliveira can take advantage later in the fight.

Rose Namajunas -205 vs. Carla Esparza

It’s been over seven years since Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza were the fighters for the inaugural UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship. Esparza submitted Namajunas in the third round to win the title, but she subsequently lost the belt to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in her next fight. It looked like Esparza’s career might be over after she lost four of seven bouts at one point, and she only recently got back on track with five straight wins.

Although Namajunas lost to Esparza the first time they met in the Octagon, she has been the superior fighter over the last seven years. Thug Rose reclaimed the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship by beating Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223, and she won the title again versus Zhang Weili last year at UFC 261 in Jacksonville. She is five years younger than Esparza and has spent the last several years fighting much better competition, making Namajunas the pick to win this fight.

Ovince St. Preux by Submission vs. Mauricio Rua +325

It’s been entertaining to watch Ovince St. Preux over the years. He doesn’t have a great record at 25-16 over his career, and he has lost five of his last seven fights. However, he has a lot of power and can punish opponents that aren’t skilled on the ground like Mauricio Rua. We saw St. Preux knock out Rua in the first round seven years ago, but the odds on a submission victory are too good to pass up.
