SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL WEEK 8: CHICAGO BEARS AT LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

BY ADAM GREENE

At some point you just have to feel sorry for Cris Collinsworth’s ass. Such is the case when the Chicago Bears somehow find themselves on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers, a game between teams with four victories between them.

Would it have been better to flex the Los Angeles Rams at Dallas Cowboys here? Yes. And there’s no question Collinsworth’s right buttock agrees, but we’re not flexing yet and are stuck with this one as the Bears travel to SoFi to take on the Chargers in a battle of two of the worst head coaches in football, Matt Eberflus vs Brandon Staley.

This will just be the 14th all time meeting between the two franchises with Chicago holding the 7-6 advantage. Los Angeles won the last meeting back on Oct. 27,2019, 17-16. Philip Rivers (now retired) was 19 of 29 passing for 201 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the win. Melvin Gordon (now with the Baltimore Ravens) rushed eight times for 31 yards and a TD. Mike Williams hauled in three passes for 69 yards.

In the loss, Mitchell Trubisky (now with the Pittsburgh Steelers) was 23 of 35 passing for 253 yards, no touchdowns and a pick. David Montgomery (now with the Detroit Lions) rushed 27 times for 135 yards and a TD and Allen Robinson (now with the Steelers) caught five balls for 62 yards.

Broadcast: NBC

Kickoff: Oct. 29, 8:20 p.m.

CHICAGO BEARS (2-5)

The Bears not only stole a win last week, they pulled of an Oceans II style heist as rookie former NCAA Division II quarterback Tyson Bagent led the team to a 30-12 blowout victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Bagent was 21 of 29 for 162 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the win. He scrambled three times for 24 yards and was sacked once. D’Onta Foreman rushed 16 times for 89 yards and two TDs. He added three receptions for 31 yards and a score. DJ Moore hauled in eight passes for 54 yards. The defense held LV to a total of 39 yards on the ground and sacked Brian Hoyer once.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (2-4)

In a “do or die” match up with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chargers are in the mortuary today after a 31-17 beat down last Sunday. Justin Herbert was 17 of 30 passing for 259 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss. He was sacked five times. Joshua Kelley rushed seven times for 75 yards and a TD. Joshua Palmer caught five passes for 133 yards. Gerald Everett hauled in three passes for 26 yards and a TD. The defense sacked Patrick Mahomes once and picked him off once.

THE PICK

At some point sheer talent has to trump bad coaching and considering both these teams boast two of the worst head coaches in the league, you have to pick for players. Therefore… Chargers 27. Bears 17
