THANKSGIVING GAME 3 WEEK 12: SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

BY ADAM GREENE

We have a decent game to open the day, a lame one in the middle and a phenomenal contest to wrap the Thanksgiving night as the San Francisco 49ers travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a game that’s supposed to be for NFC West supremacy, but, you know, come on.

Now, for whatever criticism you’d like to level at Russell Wilson, here’s one in which he’s untouchable — the dude owned the San Francisco 49ers. It didn’t matter who was coaching the Niners or who was at quarterback, DangeRuss dominated San Fran. Wilson was 17-4 against the 49ers and won his last four straight games against that team. It will not shock any of you to learn that Geno Smith has not kept that rolling, losing all three matchups with San Francisco last season, including a 41-23 blowout in the playoffs. Brock Purdy was 18 of 30 passing for 332 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. Christian McCaffrey rushed 15 times for 119 yards. He added two catches for 17 yards and a TD. Deebo Samuel caught six passes for 133 yards and a score. He added three rushes for 32 yards.

In the loss, that was predicted from space, Geno Smith was 25 of 35 passing for 253 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Kenneth Walker rushed 15 times for 63 yards and a TD. DK Metcalf caught 10 passes for 136 yards and two scores.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (7-3)

The Niners have won two straight, knocking off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-14. Brock Purdy was 21 of 25 passing for 333 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. He was sacked four times. Christian McCaffrey rushed 21 times for 78 yards and caught five passes for 25 yards and a score. Brandon Aiyuk hauled in five passes for 156 yards and a TD. George Kittle had eight grabs for 89 yards and a touchdown. The defense held Tampa Bay to 66 yards on the ground, sacked Baker Mayfield four times, picked off a pass and forced a fumble.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (6-4)

Seattle suffered the season sweep, re-opening the Los Angeles Rams’ playoff window with a 17-16 loss last Sunday. Geno Smith was 22 of 34 passing for 233 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the loss. He was also knocked from the game at one point and sacked twice. Drew Lock was 2 of 6 for three whole yards and a pick in relief. DK Metcalf caught five passes for 94 yards and a score. The defense sacked Matt Stafford once and picked him off once.

THE PICK

Every season there are contenders and pretenders and thanks to another down year for the NFC as a whole, Seattle is probably going to pretend its way to the playoffs once again. It will be a short trip. Anything other than a San Francisco blowout here will shock me and, frankly, if the Seahawks keep it close, it’ll say more bad things about the Niners than good things about the Seabirds. 49ers 37, Seahawks 23
