Alcaraz, Djokovic Vye for Final Major of 2024, The U.S. Open

It is the final major of the tennis season and the big question will be, can Novak Djokovic

continue his streak of winning a grand slam event every year? The Serbian, who is coming off

an Olympic gold, has won at least one of the big four tournaments in the last 6 years and 12 of

the past 13. Standing in his way, the new face of men’s tennis, Carlos Alcaraz who’s looking for

his third straight major in 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz +150

Carlo Alcaraz has won the French Open, Wimbledon and made the gold medal match at the

Olympics but had to settle for silver. The 21-year old has been sensational this year compiling a

record of 38-7 and winning three titles, including the two majors. He’ll be poised to rebound

after losing in Paris, a match he was favored against Novak Djokovic. Barring injuries, or a

mental lapse, Alcaraz should cruise into the final four, but at these short odds, it’s tough to back

him to win it all.

Novak Djokovic +220

Novak Djokovic became the fifth player to complete the Golden Slam after taking gold at the

Paris Games. But he’s had a tough few months having to withdraw from this year’s French

Open and then getting steamrolled by Alcarez in the finals at Wimbledon. Still, you can’t count

out the 4-time U.S.Open champion who is poised to continue his run of winning a grand slam

title for the seventh straight year. Can the Joker feed off his Olympic win and continue that

momentum at Flushing Meadows?

Jannik Sinner +225

He is the number one ranked player in the world and won the first major of the year but can

Jannik Sinner get by Djokovic and Alcaraz to win his second? He’s never passed the quarters

in the U.S. Open but has reached the final eight in each of the grand slams this year. The

23-year old has a season best record of 42-4 with four titles but will be hard pressed for another.

Another player who’s odds may be too short to lay some money down.

Longshots

Daniil Medvedev +800

Daniil Medvedev has been knocking on the door of another major reaching the final at the

Australian Open and semi final of Wimbledon this year. His lone grand slam title came at the

2021 U.S. Open and he also was runner-up to Djokovic last year. Medvedev would likely have

to get by at least one of the top three players, and could benefit from the others having played a

lot of tennis recently.

Tommy Paul +3300

The best hope for an American may be Tommy Paul. He’s coming off a quarter final

appearance at Wimbledon and the Olympics. Two years ago he reached the third round at

Flushing Meadows, the fourth round in 2023 so maybe 2024 means this could be the breakout

he’s looking for. At these odds, it may be worth a dabble but don’t hold your breath.
