Last season, Raheem Mostert led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns and for betting
enthusiasts, he was +4000 to do so. Quarterbacks Jalen Hurts (the Tush Push helped inflate
his numbers) and Josh Allen weren’t too far behind with 15. Christian McCaffrey was tied with
Mostert for the league lead with 21 scores but only 14 came from the ground. So who has the
best chance to lead the league in 2024? We’ll break down the usual suspects and see if we can
uncover a diamond in the betting rough.
Christian McCaffrey 49ers +600
Christian McCaffrey was a touchdown machine last season finishing with 14 rushing scores and
a league-high 1459 rushing yards while sitting out the final game of the year. CMC ranked first
in red-zone carries with 63 and second in carries inside the ten with 34. There is no question he
is the 49ers go-to-guy. Kyle Shanahan will want to put the ball in the hands of his best player so
expect McCaffrey to get a lot of touches. The big question is can CMC stay healthy. If he can,
he could be a shoe in for this title.
Derrick Henry, Ravens +650
The Ravens new running back already has two rushing TD titles from 2019 and 2020 and has
reached double-digit scores in six straight seasons. In Tennessee, Henry was handed the ball
often. Will that be the same with Lamar Jackson at the helm? King Henry takes over as the
goal-line specialist from Gus Edwards, who scored 13 times last season. Baltimore led the
league in rushing and finished second with 26 rushing touchdowns last season. All signs point
to the same game plan, but with Derrick Henry in the backfield.
Rushin’ Longshot
Gus Edwards, LA Chargers +5000
As mentioned Gus Edwards is coming up a 13 touchdown season after scoring 13 rushing
scores in his first five seasons in the NFL. Edwards will play the same role under new Chargers
coach, Jim Harbaugh, who loves to run the ball. Edwards has a familiar face as former Ravens
offensive coordinator Greg Roman takes over in LA. He’ll have every opportunity to score
inside the five, and while his odds are long, it could pay off if Edwards runs wild with the
Chargers.
