The running back position isn’t as valued as it used to be, but it’s still important for teams to
have a rusher who can still be utilized to the fullest. Sure, there are some big name veterans
out there, but there are also young talented backs who become even more valuable on their
rookie deals. We’ll take a look at who could lead the league in rushing in 2024.
Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers +350
While the 49ers drafted RB Ricky Pearsall in the first round, Christian McCaffrey remains the
team’s most important offensive weapon. He led the league in rushing with 1,459 yards and
was named Offensive Player of the Year. Barring injury, McCaffrey should contend for this title.
His offensive line is strong and should give him plenty of room to rack up the yards.
Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts +750
After holding out for a new contract, Jonathan Taylor got a 3-year deal and played just 10
games in 2023 posting career-lows with 74.1 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry. The 2021
rushing leader should have a better 2024 as he’ll have a full offseason to get ready. The
downside for Taylor is he hasn’t played a full 17-game season since 2021, where he averaged
106.5 yards a game. If he can return to that production level, he’ll be in contention for another
rushing title.
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles +900
Saquon Barkley ran for 1,000 yards or more in three of his six seasons in New York where he
played in front of a terrible offensive line. Now imagine what he can do with the Eagles, who
have been one of the top rushing teams in recent years. Philadelphia loves to pound the ball
and now they have a big, skilled back who could run it down a team’s throat this season. But the
most important thing for Barkley will be can he stay healthy.
WORTH A SHOT
Kyren Williams, LA Rams +1400
Kyren Williams was a revelation for the Rams last year running for 1,144 in 12 games. He was
on pace for 1,620 yards but injuries slowed him down. Williams hit the 100 yard mark in six of
his twelve games and with the Rams beefing up the line, signing
Jonah Jackson and re-signing Kevin Dotson, Williams could see a lot of daylight in games and
at his price, would be worth taking a shot
