Colorado Rockies Look To Complete Sweep Of Diamondbacks

The Colorado Rockies are having a reasonably good season in 2019. They’re 39-34 overall and are in second place in the National League West. And now the bad news–they have no legitimate chance of improving their position in the standing since they have the poor fortune of being in the same division as the Los Angeles Dodgers who have been an absolute juggernaut this season. The Rockies are 10 games out of first place and with the Dodgers steaming along with a 50-25 record they would have to raise their play dramatically *and* hope that Los Angeles stumbles for them to have any chance at getting back in the race.

To their credit, the Rockies keep plugging away and they’ve got a chance to complete a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks if they can take a win in Thursday’s game. Arizona has played fairly well this year and they find themselves just over the .500 mark with a 38-37 record. Curiously, they’ve been much better on the road (24-19) than at home (14-18). They’ve now lost 3 straight while the San Diego Padres have won four straight which has moved them into a tie for third.

Colorado will start righthander Jeff Hoffman who has been hit hard this year. Hoffman has a 7.04 ERA and a 1.467 WHIP overall with the Rockies losing 4 of his six starts this season. He’s been even worse on the road with a 9.20 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP in two starts, both Colorado losses. He pitched fairly well last time out going 5 innings and allowing 3 hits and 1 earned runs at home against San Diego. He didn’t factor in the decision but the Rockies would eventually lose the game 16-12.

Arizona will counter with lefthander Robbie Ray who has put up capable numbers this year with the D-Backs going 8-7 when he takes the mound. Overall, Ray has a 3.83 ERA and a 1.324 WHIP with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.192 WHIP at home. He’s coming off a substandard outing in which he allowed 5 ER and 2 HR at Washington last Friday.

The Rockies have made money against left handers this year (14-14 +2.3 units) and for whatever reason have dominated the Diamondbacks in head to head play. Colorado is now 7-2 against Arizona this season for a profit of +5.7 units. Due to the disparity in the stats of the starting pitchers the Rockies are getting a nice underdog price on the baseball betting odds board.
