Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Odds

Two years ago the Philadelphia Eagles shocked the world and the sportsbooks by winning Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots. And they did it with their back up quarterback. Now, nearly 600 days later ,that quarterback is gone. Nick Foles will now be trying to get the Jacksonville Jaguars over the hump. It’s all Carson Wentz’s show in Philly now.

Make no mistake, Wentz is the better, more talented quarterback. Foles just had that Eagles X-Factor that, when teamed up with Andy Reid or Doug Pederson, could turn into magic. There’s plenty of reasons to believe Philadelphia can do it again and their Super Bowl Odds bear that out.

According to BetOnline.ag, the Eagles are +1200 to play in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2, 2020.

That’s tied for the fourth best odds, with the Chicago Bears and the 2018 NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams.

The biggest issue for Philadelphia is the health of Carson Wentz. He’s unquestionably a franchise quarterback and a No. 2 overall pick the Eagles aced in 2016. Wentz was in the MVP conversation in 2017 before he went down with an injury and that’s been his problem. In three NFL seasons, he’s only played one full 16-game tilt. He missed the final three games of 2017, the playoff run and the Super Bowl.

Last season, he once again watched Foles take his team on a postseason run, missing the final four regular season games and the playoffs.

The Eagles have spared no expense with Wentz, signing him to a massive contract extension this offseason and surrounding him with playmakers. This will be the best wide receiver corps he’s played with in his life, with Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and DeSean Jackson. Zach Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the league and when the team goes to two TEs, 2018 second round pick Dallas Goedert caught 33 passes and four touchdowns last year.

Up front, Wentz has one of the better offensive lines in the league with two legitimate stars at the tackle positions in Jason Peters and Lane Johnson. Philadelphia invested their first round pick in Andre Dillard out of Washington State, putting a starting level tackle on the bench as a back up.

The Eagles have talent on defense, but they underperformed in 2018, not that it mattered in the long run. Three of the final four teams had nowhere near an elite defensive units and the Kansas City Chiefs boasted the second worst in the league. Philly finished ranked No. 23, the New England Patriots No. 21 and the Los Angeles Rams were ranked 19th.

If you can score points, you can win a title.

When it comes to the NFC East, you can go ahead and cross out the New York Giants and Washington Redskins. The Eagles are -150 to win their division and that’s a safe bet, especially with the contract turmoil with Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys.

The key for an Eagles title run is home field advantage, and that will take 13 wins to get. They won’t beat the Rams, New Orleans Saints or Chicago Bears on the road this season in January. This looks like an 11-5 team to me that’ll wrap up its year in the divisional round.

They’re not a horrible bet for the Super Bowl, but your money will probably serve you better elsewhere.
