NFL Football Betting: ATS Power Rankings 1-16

16. PITTSBURGH STEELERS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 22

The Steelers have now covered three straight since Ben Roethlisberger went down in Week 2. Mason Rudolph’s concussion makes way for rookie Devlin Hodges, who won the Walter Payton Award (the FCS version of the Heisman) last season at Samford. Nothing is going right for the Steelers, but maybe Hodges can keep their cover streak alive.

15. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 21

Like Pittsburgh, the Saints have covered three straight without their starting quarterback. Their victory over Tampa last week was their first cover of the season as favorites. They’re back in the underdog role this week when they travel to Jacksonville.

14. DALLAS COWBOYS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 4

It’s a big drop for the Cowboys after losing to Green Bay by 10 as 3.5-point favorites. They’ve now failed to cover twice in a row, both times losing outright as favorites. They’re favored yet again this week, this time by 7.5 against the Jets on the road.

13. HOUSTON TEXANS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 20

Houston’s offense may be inconsistent, but they take a big jump this week after their demolition of Atlanta. We wouldn’t exactly call them trustworthy, but you can’t argue with a 60 percent cover rate.

12. OAKLAND RAIDERS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 16

The Raiders now have two consecutive straight-up wins as underdogs. We’re reluctant to move them into the top 10 since both of their losses were so bad. The Raiders are off this week, but if they can manage a cover against Green Bay in Week 7 it will be impossible to keep them out.

11. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 5

Jacksonville’s three-cover streak came to an end at the hands of Carolina. That said, the Jaguars were in it until the very end. They were underdogs in all of their previous games, but at the moment they’re favored against New Orleans.

10. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 2

Kansas City nearly falls out of the top 10 after failing to cover for the second straight week. What’s more, they lost by six as 10.5-point favorites. That’s the sort of performance that will earn a massive drop in these rankings.

9. CAROLINA PANTHERS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 12

That’s three straight wins and covers for the Panthers with Kyle Allen as the starter. The first two were as underdogs, but last week they showed they could cover as favorites. They’ll face the Bucs for the second time this week. In their first meeting, Carolina lost by six as 6.5-point favorites.

8. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 14

Minnesota hasn’t been able to cover two games in a row, which doesn’t bode well for their home matchup with Philadelphia. Still, they’re coming off an impressive cover over the Giants and they’re 3-1 ATS as favorites. They’re three-point home favorites this weekend.

7. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (3-2)
WEEK 5 RANK: 10

The Patriots opened the season with two impressive covers and then failed to cover the next two weeks. They’re back in the win column with a 26-point win over the Redskins as 15.5-point favorites. They’ll host a severely weakened Giants team on Thursday night as 16.5-point favorites.

6. DETROIT LIONS (3-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 6

The Lions maintain their sixth ranking after a bye week. With three covers and nearly a fourth in Week 1, they’re one of the safest bets in the league. Unfortunately, they’re about to have their toughest test yet. They’ll travel to Green Bay on Monday night as four-point underdogs.

5. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (3-1-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 9

The Colts are coming off one of the most impressive covers of the season after beating Kansas City as 10.5-point underdogs. It’s hard to believe they’re the same team that lost to Oakland as 5.5-point favorites the week before. They’ll have the week to bask in their victory before returning against Houston.

4. LOS ANGELES RAMS (4-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 8

Though the Rams have arguably been a disappointment coming off their Super Bowl appearance, they’re turning a profit for those who are betting on them. Three of their four covers were extremely close and their one ATS loss wasn’t close at all, but they’re tied for the highest cover rate in the league.

3. GREEN BAY PACKERS (4-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 7

The Packers bounced back from their first ATS loss with an impressive performance against Dallas. They won by 10 as 3.5-point underdogs and it wasn’t really that close. Their opponents this week, the Lions, also have one of the highest cover rates in the league.

2. BUFFALO BILLS (4-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 3

The Bills have a legitimate case to be ranked number one. Not only are they tied for the highest cover rate, but they also have five unders. Anyone who bet Buffalo and under each week would have made a decent profit by now. The streak will have to wait a week while the Bills are on bye. They’ll return to face the lowly Dolphins.

1. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (3-1)
WEEK 5 RANK: 1

The 49ers maintain their top spot after yet another dominant cover. If you bet on the 49ers at any point this season, chances are you had a relaxing win. Their lone ATS loss, a 24-20 win over Pittsburgh as six-point favorites, was nothing to freak out over. Though they don’t have the highest cover rate in the league, it was tough to remove them from the top spot after what they did to Cleveland on Monday night.
