Under Review Show – Week 8 Recap and Week 9 Preview

Two legs of last week’s Teaseburger came in, but the third failed to hit making the guys’ Week 8 NFL Teaseburger an unfortunate loser. The Under Review crew feels good about Week 9’s slate though, giving out four picks to use in your teasers this weekend.

THE UNDER REVIEW SHOW – THE AFTERMATH – OCT 29

First, let’s get the record keeping out of the way. New England covered the teaser number for an eighth straight week in a 27-13 win over Cleveland last Sunday. The Pats jumped on the Browns 17-0 in the first quarter and didn’t look back on their way to moving to 6-2 ATS this year. Last year’s other Super Bowl participant easily covered too, with the Los Angeles Rams beating the Cleveland Browns 24-10.

The lone loss was the New York Jets failing to cover the teaser number by a single point on the road against Jacksonville. Gardner Minshew II and Leonard Fournette both had nice days in the win, while Sam Darnold threw three interceptions and the Jets couldn’t get anything done on the ground.

Although they have continued to win and cover, none of the guys are taking the Patriots in Week 9. New England is laying a field goal on the road against Baltimore, and no one wants to move the Patriots down to +4 against the Ravens.

Instead, the first pick for the Week 9 Teaseburger is Buffalo. The Bills are hosting Washington this week, and they are a 9.5-point favorite over their NFC East foe. Washington’s fortunes haven’t changed with Bill Callahan at the helm instead of Jay Gruden, and this is the worst team in the NFC.

Dwayne Haskins will make his first career start with Case Keenum in the concussion protocol. Washington owner Daniel Snyder really wanted Haskins in this year’s NFL Draft, but the Ohio State product has had a dismal start to his pro career. Haskins has completed 12 of 22 passes for 140 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions in two appearances this season.

Buffalo has been having trouble moving the ball, but the Bills shouldn’t have much trouble running on a Washington front seven that has had issues stopping the run. Josh Allen won’t have to go to the air too much, giving the Bills a relatively comfortable win over Washington.

The second leg of the Week 9 Teaseburger is a surprising one in Seattle. The Seahawks are not favored in that 7 to 9.5 point range the hosts generally like to use in order to maximize the value of key numbers, but they are playing at home against a perennially disappointing team in Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers pull off one surprising upset each season, but they already did that this year. Tampa Bay went on the road to become the first team to beat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, and the mistake-prone Bucs aren’t likely to beat a team that doesn’t make mistakes in Seattle. Jameis Winston would need to have a monster game to knock off the Seahawks, but over the past five years we have learned that Winston is more likely to throw for three interceptions than three touchdowns.

Dallas is the final leg of the standard Teaseburger. The Cowboys are -7 on the road against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, and Dallas dismantled this team in Big D earlier this year.

Danny Dimes has been hot and cold since taking over for Eli Manning as the Giants’ starting quarterback. He was excellent against Detroit and Tampa Bay, but he was subpar in his other four games. Jones has not fared well at home, being sacked 12 times in his last two games in MetLife Stadium, and he has yet to throw multiple touchdown passes in the Big Apple. The Cowboys have had their issues this month, but the Giants have had more and those are more pronounced.

There’s a bonus selection for the Teaseburger this week. San Francisco was laying 9.5 points at BetOnline earlier this week, and the hosts locked it in as an official selection before the line shifted. Currently, the 49ers are a 10.5-point favorite, but kudos to you if you have 9.5 or 10 since three is such a key number. Arizona will be without Chase Edmonds tonight, and with David Johnson questionable, newly acquired Kenyan Drake could see a significant workload.
