NFL Home Underdogs Week 12 Preview

Our condolences if you bet home underdogs in Week 11. Home underdogs were 8-2 ATS in Week 9 and Week 10 of the NFL season, but true home teams went 0-3 ATS last weekend. Tampa Bay was blasted at home by New Orleans as Jameis Winston threw four interceptions in a loss, and Buffalo pounded Miami 37-20. Philadelphia could not cover the spread at home against defending champions New England either, leading to a depressing week for those who bet this angle. If you bet home underdogs this week, you’re going to have to hold your nose with the first three selections, but at least you have the 6-4 Los Angeles Rams to trust on Monday night.

NFL WEEK 12 BETTING ODDS

CINCINNATI BENGALS +6 VS. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

For all the talk of Washington and Miami being the two worst teams in the NFL, Cincinnati is the only winless team in the league at this point of the season. The Bengals were feisty at the start of this campaign, but they have faded into obscurity like the Cincinnati teams of old in Zac Taylor’s first season at the helm. It’s clear that this team is bottoming out with its decision to start Ryan Finley over Andy Dalton the rest of the season, and they are almost a touchdown underdog against a team that has regularly dominated them in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers crushed the Bengals in the Steel City earlier this year, but this Pittsburgh team looks a lot different than that one. JuJu Smith-Schuster is unlikely to play, James Conner is questionable, Diontae Johnson is questionable, and Benny Snell Jr. and Maurkice Pouncey are both out. That severely limits the options that Mason Rudolph will have available on Sunday.

NEW YORK JETS +3 VS. OAKLAND RAIDERS

Oakland had some trouble getting past Cincinnati last week, and it’s hard to fully trust the Raiders. They have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and a solid running back in Josh Jacobs, but Derek Carr doesn’t have many weapons to throw to and the defense has been spotty at times.

Sam Darnold had the best game of his young career last week, eviscerating the lowly Redskins. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 293 yards with four touchdowns and an interception, and he led the Jets to one of the biggest upsets of the year when they secured their first win of the season on the road in Dallas.

The Jets have some talent, and they have now won consecutive games for the first time this season. Gang Green could be a sneaky upset pick as a field goal underdog per the NFL betting odds.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS +3.5 VS. DETROIT LIONS

Jeff Driskel is not a good quarterback. The Lions will probably be without Matthew Stafford for the rest of the year, and Detroit is not the same team without its star quarterback. Driskel has posted decent numbers in his first two starts for the Lions, but those who remember him from his time at Florida know that he is primed for a bad performance. That could lead to Washington pulling off the upset and picking up its first win of the season.

Detroit’s defense has not been good. The Lions had the 25th best defense in the NFL per DVOA coming into Week 11, and that’s worse than how the Redskins rank. That could bode well for rookie Dwayne Haskins who had the best performance of his young career against the Jets last week.

LOS ANGELES RAMS +3.5 VS. BALTIMORE RAVENS

This is a must win game for the Rams. Los Angeles is two games out of the playoff picture in the toughest division in football, and the Rams can’t afford to lose many more games given the strength of the NFC. However, the Rams haven’t looked great, and they are underdogs at home in this primetime game.

Baltimore is the most public team in the NFL right now. Everyone is all aboard Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, and they are overlooking the flaws on this team. The Ravens don’t have a reliable receiver and a shaky defense, so the Rams could pull off the upset if they make this a defensive game. Aaron Donald can wreck the Ravens’ offensive line and pull that off.
