As the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens have emerged as two of the top teams in the NFL, it’s been a great week to revisit some “expert” predictions from days past. Many people criticized the 49ers this offseason and even more have questioned Ravens quarterbacks Lamar Jackson in his short time in the league. That’s paved the way for some awfully inaccurate freezing cold takes. Let’s take a look back:
NINERS TAKES
The San Francisco had a really rough 2018 where they finished the season with just four wins. That prompted plenty of scrutiny for the franchise as few fans and experts had their own answers as to why the franchise was failing. Not only that, we had some great predictions for 2019 when everyone thought they’d again be a failure.
(10/28/18): Jed York is bad at hiring head coaches except you know who. I blame him but I don’t blame him. He means well, but he’s over his head. 49ers need to find someone else to hire coach if they fire Shanahan, say, after next season when he again will suck.
-Adam Rank predicts Niners 3-13 at beginning of season
(11/12/19) Good lord are the Niners beatable. Packers fans are scared of this? Really? Smh

LAMAR JACKSON/RAVENS TAKES
Those Lamar Jackson hot takes will never get old. When he was drafted at the back end of the first round in the 2019 NFL Draft, many people felt the Ravens were making a mistake. Fast forward a year later and not only is Jackson a capable starting quarterback, he’s the heavy favorite to win the MVP award. That’s put a lot of those early hot takes – both last year and this year – on freezing cold ice.
-(8/2/18) Mason Rudolph will end up being a better NFL quarterback than Lamar Jackson.
-(1/6/19) after the Ravens Playoff loss to the Chargers last year) I would never want to blow one game out of proportion…but off of this game, how hard will it be for Baltimore to go into next season with Jackson as the starter? How could his teammates believe that vs a good playoff level defense he’s ever give them the best chance to win?
(11/25/19): Mike Francesa explains that he’s taking the Rams +3 vs. Baltimore because they have the defensive coordinator and defensive personnel to shut down the Ravens!
(1/7/19): Lamar Jackson
2018 Passer Rating
9.2 points WORSE than NFL median (84.5 vs 93.7)
Tim Tebow
2011 Passer Rating
6.5 points WORSE than NFL median (72.9 vs 79.4)
Tebow > Jackson?
(6/20/17) it wont happen but if Louisville were really thinking about Lamar Jackson’s future they would move him to wr,thats where he will play in NFL
(5/17/19): I’ve never bet more money on a future than I did for the Ravens under 8.5 wins.

TEXAS LONGHORN TAKES
The Texas Longhorns rebuild under Todd Herman has taken quite a while. Sure, the program isn’t a hot mess like it was under Charlie Strong but the results haven’t blown anyone away. They’re not at 6-5 and have some real question marks about the state of the program as we head towards the postseason.
What’s interesting is that there were a lot of Texas-sized takes about the program being back after beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl last season (even though Georgia was disinterested in the game) or criticizing Baylor’s head coaching choices (even though Baylor is 10-1 and just beat Texas). None of those takes have worked out very well.
(12/6/16, Texas Longhorn FanSite about Baylor hiring Matt Rhule): Oh man, this Baylor hire makes absolutely no sense. I love it.
-(1/2/19), after Texas beats Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger announces “We’re Baaaaaack”
-(1/2/19) The expectations are now, rightfully unlimited for the Horns. Texas should be in the CFP next season.
11/26/16 ANNIVERSARY OF LSU HIRING ED ORGERON
A lot of people were critical of LSU’s hiring of Ed Orgeron. He was always viewed as a decent coordinator but never a great coach. After all, he was only 10-25 as a head coach at Ole Miss and mopped up a season at USC as an interim boss. LSU putting him in charge wasn’t exactly a sexy hiring. When LSU did in fact hire him, the hot takes flew, criticizing the move. Now is a good time to revisit those as the Tigers are a perfect 11-0 so far and look like a legitimate National Championship contender under Orgeron.
By hiring Ed Orgeron, LSU is essentially waving the white flag until Nick Saban retires. Enjoy your Outback/Citrus/Music City Bowls.

wakes up to the Ed Orgeron news
Dear LSU fans,
Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha
LSU firing its most successful head coach in program history to hire Ed Orgeron is the most LSU move possible.
a.) Herman is a good coach… b.) even if he’s not, I’ll bet a million dollars that he’s better than Orgeron
Just from my view, if #LSU had a choice between Tom Herman and Ed Orgeron…AND chose Orgeron — they made a massive mistake.

-Chris Palmer Luka Doncic Tweet from 5/15/18
-(11/23/19, A half-hour before the Sixers beat the heat 113-86): The problem with booing Jimmy Butler is that he feeds off that. It motivates him.
(11/24/19): “Somebody gonna get their a** beat. And it ain’t gonna be us”
DJ Hayden is ready for Tennessee.
(3/3/17): So Christian McCaffrey isn’t a special athlete, he isn’t a home-run threat and I can’t give him the ball 20 times a game. 1st round though?
