Freezing Cold Takes Review 12/3/19

There were plenty of Freezing Cold Takes relevant to this past week in sports. Let’s review.

MICHIGAN DISAPPOINTS AGAIN

How many future bets have people lost on Michigan winning a National Championship in the past five years? With all the hype that the Wolverines produced when Jim Harbaugh was hired as head coach, it probably was quite a few. Before Harbaugh can win a title with Michigan, he’ll have to win the Big Ten East division first, something the Wolverines haven’t done in Harbaugh’s first five seasons in Ann Arbor. After Michigan’s blowout loss to Ohio State Saturday, it’s not unreasonable to wonder if Harbaugh will ever lead Michigan to a National Championship. Here’s some of the best hype tweets from Harbaugh’s first few years at Michigan:

NEBRASKA’S HYPE FALLS FLAT

There is another Big Ten school that failed to meet recent expectations: Nebraska. When alumnus Scott Frost was hired as head coach before the 2018 season most expected better than nine wins in two seasons and no bowl games. But that is exactly what happened. Here’s some Husker hype from the past two years:

BEWARE OF COLLEGE COACHING RUMORS

Now that the College Football season is coming to a close, and plenty of coaching jobs are opening up, there will be plenty of rumors flying around about potential hires. Warning: Don’t believe everything you hear. Especially if you plan on putting down on prop bets. Here are some examples of past reports gone wrong:

MORE FROM THIS WEEK

Few thought the Jets, who had won three in a row coming into Sunday’s game against the winless Bengals, would fall flat and lose. But that is exactly what happened. Nobody was more “all-in” on the Jets than the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta:

Colin Cowherd may have underestimated the Saints just a tad:

The Raptors have opened the season strong. It is still early, but if you listened to Jason McIntyre and bet against Toronto, you are getting nervous:

Speaking of the Raptors, the Knicks, who currently have the worst record in the Eastern Conference, may not as be comparable to Toronto as one thought.

After another terrible game, Nick Foles is out at QB for the Jaguars, Gardner Minshew is back in, and this tweet doesn’t look great:

There aren’t many of them, but at least one person wrongly thought the Giants would actually be good this year:

Oh, and how about this gem from the Giants official account from back in August:

This Raider fan was just a tad bit overconfident going into their game with the Chiefs, in which Oakland ended up being blown out:

The Eagles lost to the Dolphins this Sunday. They are 5-7. They have not clinched a playoff spot.
