Week 14 NFL Biggest Spread Moves

A smart bettor knows to monitor line movements as the week goes along. Often when the bet is made is nearly as important as who the bet is on. Here are Week 14’s biggest spread moves and the likely reasons for said moves.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-3) @ LOS ANGELES RAMS
Opening: Seattle Seahawks (+1) @ Los Angeles Rams

The Rams were a missed field goal away from beating the Seahawks in Seattle back in Week 5. They also looked good in their most recent victory of the Cardinals and the Seahawks have a short week after playing on Monday night.

Other than that, there’s not much to suggest the Rams should have become favorites. Both teams have covered five of the last 10 in the series. The Rams are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 home matchups with Seattle, though seven of those were in St. Louis. The Seahawks covered in their last two trips to Los Angeles.

The Rams do have an advantage in that they’ll have Jalen Ramsey in the lineup this time. However, two of the Rams’ starting corners in the first matchup (Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters) have since been traded.

The Seahawks are 5-1 ATS on the road while the Rams are 7-3 ATS as favorites.

CINCINNATI BENGALS (+10.5) @ CLEVELAND BROWNS
Opening: Cincinnati Bengals (+7) @ Cleveland Browns

When this line was released, the Bengals were still winless and it was unclear if the Ryan Finley era would continue. Now that the Bengals are finally coming off a win and Andy Dalton is back, the thought of betting them isn’t as off-putting.

The Bengals have also covered in eight of their last 10 meetings with the Browns. They’ve covered five straight in Cleveland.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (PK) @ TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Opening: Indianapolis Colts (+3) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Colts have too many injuries to their skill positions. With T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron, Chester Rogers and Devin Funchess all out, Jacoby Brissett is running out of weapons.

Marlon Mack’s return is a positive, but teams typically don’t beat Tampa on the ground. Tampa’s fully healthy passing game will have a huge advantage against Indy’s secondary.

CAROLINA PANTHERS (+1) @ ATLANTA FALCONS
Opening: Carolina Panthers (+3.5) @ Atlanta Falcons

It’s unclear to what extent Ron Rivera’s firing will affect the Panthers. There’s an argument to be made that it will hurt them, which could factor into the Atlanta bets.

The more likely reason is these teams played each other just three weeks ago in Charlotte and Atlanta won 29-3. The Falcons expect to have Julio Jones and Austin Hooper while the Panthers will be without Greg Olsen.

MIAMI DOLPHINS (+7.5) @ NEW YORK JETS
Opening: Miami Dolphins (+5) @ New York Jets

Sometimes the explanations are easy. Look no further than how each team performed in Week 13. The Dolphins pulled out an unlikely win over the Eagles and the Jets lost to the previously winless Bengals 22-6. The Jets won by eight at home in their first meeting with Miami.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS (+14.5) @ GREEN BAY PACKERS
Opening: Washington Redskins (+12.5) @ Green Bay Packers

Bets on Washington make sense from a psychological perspective. The Packers may look past them at some of the big division games they have on the horizon.

At 3-9 the Redskins, surprisingly, have something to play for. If they win their final four games, they have a slim chance of winning the NFC East.
