The long wait is over and Super Bowl LIV is finally here. Part of the spectacle is the sports betting fun associated with the event, from the serious handicapping to the desire for casual bettors to add to the entertainment value of the game. While the list of Super Bowl props can seem limitless, we’re going to hone in on the props relating to the singing of the National Anthem. This year, pop star Demi Lovato will have the honors, so let’s take a closer look to see where the value lies with the anthem props:
LENGTH OF DEMI LOVATO ANTHEM PERFORMANCE
OVER 2 MINUTES, 1 SECOND -160
UNDER 2 MINUTES, 1 SECOND +120
Consider that the under on this prop bet has hit in each of the previous three years and in nine of the past 12 years overall. Last year, it took Pink just one minute and 52 seconds to sing the anthem. Is it possible that Lovato will extend it longer than two minutes and one second? She’s a bit of a crooner that likes to hang on every note, so don’t be surprised if she has a big closing to the patriotic anthem.
WILL DEMI LOVATO WEAR SKIRT/SHORTS/DRESS?
YES -250
NO +170
This prop focuses on what Lovato’s outfit will be. She’s a young performer with some sex appeal, so she could be showing off some leg. At the same time, she’s making just her second public appearance since a drug overdose last year. In her first, at the Grammy’s, she wore a long, flowing dress. It makes it tricky to predict whether she’ll go for the sexy look or leaning towards something safer.
DEMI LOVATO HAIR COLOR DURING ANTHEM
BLACK -500
ANY OTHER +300
BLONDE +500
Lovato has been seen with her traditional black locks for months now and it’s highly unlikely she is going to suddenly shake things up before one of the biggest performances of her young career. It’s no surprise that this prop bet is listed at -500 odds. We just saw her at the Grammy’s and she had the traditional black look, so that seems like it’s the right bet here.
WILL A PLAYER RAISE A FIST?
NO -1500
YES +600
Of course, football fans will be wondering if there will be any protest of any kind during the national anthem and this prop asks whether any of the players dressed for either team will raise a fist during the national anthem. While there is no doubt we will hear Colin Kaepernick’s name at some point during the Super Bowl broadcast, we probably aren’t going to see much in the form of political protest as the league continues to make a point to influence players to stand at attention during the anthem with their hands over their hearts. Nobody wants to be a distraction at this point with the biggest prize on the line.
