Under Review Show – Super Bowl LIV Aftermath and NFL Futures Odds

Everyone is disappointed that football has come to an end. America’s favorite sport has gone into hibernation for the next seven months, and the Under Review crew spends the first half of this week’s podcast feeling nostalgic about what we saw in Super Bowl LIV.
Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the game today. That was made clear on Super Bowl Sunday when he led the Kansas City Chiefs back from their third double-digit postseason deficit to their first title in 50 years, and our hosts don’t have enough nice things to say about the third-year quarterback. They wax poetic about his skillset, and everyone agrees that the Kansas City Chiefs are the team to beat for Super Bowl LV next year. The oddsmakers agree with that sentiment too, making the Chiefs the favorite to win Super Bowl LV.
There is consensus among the hosts when it comes to the halftime show too. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez delighted the world while dropping a lot of jaws, and the pop superstars made some bettors a considerable amount of money with their antics. BetOnline made the decision to pay out all bets regarding cleavage during the festivities, so congratulations to you if you cashed in on one of those bets. We might not see a similar bet available for the Super Bowl LV halftime show.
Looking ahead to next year, D is a fan of the New Orleans Saints at 12-1 to win Super Bowl LV, but the pick isn’t that popular with the other two hosts. The Saints have an aging quarterback in Drew Brees, and Brees hasn’t been as sharp as he was earlier in his career. The NFL’s all-time passing leader has the best receiver in the game in Michael Thomas and one of the best offensive minds around in Sean Payton, but the key to this bet will be New Orleans’ defensive live next season. Marcus Davenport and Sheldon Rankins were lost for the season in early December, and the lack of a pass rush really hurt the Saints over the tail end of the 2019 campaign.
San Francisco is considered the best team in the NFC according to the Super Bowl LV betting odds, but the three favorites to win the Big Game next year come from the AFC. Kansas City, Baltimore, and New England all have odds to win the Super Bowl of less than 10-1, and that leads to value in teams from the NFC. Only the 49ers are less than 12-1 to win the Super Bowl of the teams in the NFC, and contenders like Green Bay, Philadelphia, and Seattle all have odds of 18-1. All three teams could improve over the offseason, making a play on the Packers, Eagles, or Seahawks a very profitable one if things break the right way.
That’s not the only NFL futures bet you can make now though. There is growing speculation that Tom Brady will move on from New England in the spring, and you can bet on who the GOAT will quarterback in 2020. He is an odds-on favorite to end up sticking with the Patriots after spending 20 seasons under Bill Belichick, but two teams that have recently moved are the favorites to sign Brady if he decides to forge a new path. The Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers would both love to sign Brady, giving these two franchises someone to market and use to fill their stadiums.
NFL MVP odds are also up to keep us busy during the offseason. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are the two favorites to be named league MVP in 2020 after becoming the last two players to win this award, but the Under Review hosts are intrigued about a rookie with odds of 66-1. Joe Burrow set college football ablaze with his incredible senior season, leading LSU to a national championship and winning the Heisman Trophy by a historic margin. Burrow is considered a lock to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after such a performance, and he will have some weapons to work with in Cincinnati. A rookie hasn’t won the NFL MVP since Jim Brown did it in 1957, but the hosts see value in Burrow to shock everyone at this price.
