2024 MLB MVP Odds: American League
The battle for MVP honors in the American League will look much different in 2024 with Shohei
Ohtani bolting to the National League after signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani had
won 2 of the previous 3 years and Aaron Judge taking it in 2022. Judge will be back in the mix
and so will one of his teammates, who switched leagues, making the chase for the AL MVP very
interesting this coming season.
Top Contenders
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees (+550)
Any chance for Aaron Judge to win his second MVP in 3 years will rely on health. If he can
avoid injuries, he’ll be in the running. In 2023 he finished with 37 home runs and 75 RBI’s but
missed 56 games due to injury. He still finished 4th in the AL for home runs. The big question
will be load management. Judge has said that the injured toe will need constant maintenance
so the big gamble will be how many games Judge can play this season.
Juan Soto, New York Yankees (+600)
Judge’s newest teammate, Juan Soto is almost a co-favorite for MVP. Considered the best pure
hitter in the game he now moves to a ballpark that is favorable for his skill set. For left-handed
hitters, Yankee Stadium played as the second-most home run-friendly ballpark last season while his previous home stadium in San Diego was second-least friendly. This could mean a banner season for Soto and 50 home runs isn’t out of the question, which puts him into the MVP
conversation.
Other Value Contenders
Corey Seager, Texas Rangers (+800)
A year ago, Corey Seager finished a distant second to Ohtani in AL MVP voting. And that gap
could have been closer if not for injuries. The shortstop missed 43 games hurting his chances
but this season, if he can stay healthy and put up similar numbers he could walk away with the
award that eluded him in 2023.
Julio Rodriguez, Seattle Mariners (+900)
In just his third season in the league, Julio Rodriguez has shown he can be the game’s next
star. He set a modern-day MLB record last season with 17 hits in 22 at-bats during a four-game
span. If the Mariners can be in the playoff hunt into September, Rodriguez could garner some
attention. He can put up power numbers and steal bases, 60 home runs and 62 stolen bases in
two seasons. This could be his breakout season, meaning a chance at becoming the first
Mariner to win the honor since Ichiro in 2001.
