The MVP award is one of the most prestigious awards that a player can get in any professional sports league. For the MLB, they give two of these awards away. One of them goes to a player in the American League while the other goes to somebody in the National League. Here we are going to talk about a few of the best MVP bets for the AL.
Aaron Judge (+1550)
Health is the main factor in Aaron Judge winning the AL MVP award. He was fully healthy in two seasons throughout his career and both times he saw himself finish in the top-five for MVP voting. However, he just hasn’t really been able to stay healthy. Plus, he has had some issues with getting a contract extension and recent talks about him not being able to play home games because of his vaccination status came into the light as well. Still, Judge is one of the best players in the league when fully healthy and available for his team. This could be another year that he is.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (+365)
Vladimir Guerrero actually held the AL MVP race for the majority of the 2021 season but Ohtani was just on too big of a hot streak to stay ahead of. Guerrero was playing like a man possessed last year, leading the league with 48 home runs, 123 total runs, a .601 batting percentage and a .401 on-base percentage. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he was in the to 10 in the league with 111 RBIs and a .311 batting average. Don’t be worried about team success either, the Toronto Blue Jays look primed to contend with a lot of talent on their roster. Guerrero could win it.
Mike Trout (+365)
Mike Trout recently turned 30 years old but that doesn’t mean he is slowing down anytime soon. The longtime player has consistently been in the AL MVP race practically every year at this point. One of the biggest things holding him back is his health and lack of team success. Over his career, he has made the playoffs just once, which is something that hurts you when talking about the MVP. He has also missed 20 plus games multiple years now. If Trout can stay on the field, then we can see another MVP season out of him since he won it back in 2018.
Shohei Ohtani (+325)
The MLB world was set on fire from the play of Shohei Ohtani last season. The Los Angeles Angels superstar has the ability to smash over 40 home runs in a single season while pitching below a 3.00 ERA. That’s something that very little have been able to accomplish in league history. Last year, Ohtani blasted away 46 home runs and 100 RBIs. This was coupled with his pitching record of 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 158 total strikeouts. The reigning champion now looks to become the first MLB player to win the MVP in back-to-back season since Miguel Cabrera. If 2021 was any indication, Ohtani doesn’t look like he is ready to slow down at all.
