The Major League Baseball season is at the All-Star break. While the best players in the game play at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night in the midsummer classic, every MLB team will get some much-needed rest before returning to action in the second half of the season, which begins for a few teams on Thursday and for everyone else on Friday. If you have been following the world of baseball betting and measuring which teams have delivered above-expected moneyline and spread value, these are the top four teams. Three of them have great records. The fourth has been a massive surprise relative to preseason expectations.

Baltimore Orioles

The 46-46 Orioles are not a likely playoff team, but they are unique in returning value to bettors. They have returned the most money relative to their performance as measured by the odds and prices for their games, over 1,700. The Orioles were expected to be a very bad team buried at the bottom of the American League East. At the All-Star Break, they are just 3.5 games out of a playoff spot. In terms of overachieving relative to expectations, this is the biggest surprise in baseball, and anyone who has expressed faith in the Orioles has been handsomely rewarded in baseball betting. Keep in mind that the Orioles exist in the American League East, a division which – before the season started – was expected to have at least three playoff teams and could very possibly have four. As things currently stand at the All-Star break, the East would indeed have three playoff teams, with the New York Yankees having the best record in baseball and the Tampa Bay Rays owning the top wild card spot in the American League, with the Toronto Blue Jays grabbing the final playoff berth in the A.L. The Boston Red Sox are just two games behind the Blue Jays for that last wild card berth. With all these playoff contenders, the Orioles were supposed to be the punching bag for all of them, but that hasn’t happened. The Orioles have won series against the Yankees, Rays and Red Sox at home, and they split a four-game series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. That’s a lot of covered spreads as an underdog, and a lot of high-yield moneyline wins. It has all added up in a big way.

New York Yankees

The 64-28 Yankees are third in delivering value relative to the odds placed on them. They’re one of only three teams delivering above a plus-1,150 money return. The Yankees lost a series to the Cincinnati Reds this past week, and they did stumble a few times in April before their season took off, but for the most part, the Yankees have been cashing a ton of moneyline tickets and winning a lot of games relative to the spread. They just crushed the Red Sox by more than 10 runs in consecutive games, reminding bettors how good they have been since the start of May. After some April hiccups, they have been very reliable from a betting standpoint until this past week, which marked one of their few lulls of 2022.

Houston Astros

The Astros, at 50-32, are plus 1,121 and have performed well relative to the odds. Their three wins against the Yankees are part of the story. The fact that they have lost just eight times in their past 30 games has also boosted their identity as a great team to bet on. Houston was not a betting lock in the first month of the season, but in June, the Astros hardly ever lost, and that enabled them to make up ground and become a leading best-bet option for baseball bettors.

New York Mets

The 58-35 Mets are plus 1205, returning more value to bettors than all other teams except the Orioles. The Mets just did beat the Atlanta Braves two out of three times in a road series. They won two of three games against the Cubs to finish the first half of the season. The Mets have had some struggles against the American League but have been tremendous against the National League. Many analysts feel the Mets could upend the Dodgers and become the Senior Circuit’s representative in the World Series. Buck Showalter has never been to the World Series. This could be the team which puts him over the top.
