MLB Strikeouts Leader Odds 2025: Skenes Favored in Sophomore Season

He is the most hyped-up player going into this season, and for obvious reasons. Paul Skenes is not only favored to win the Cy Young, but also to lead the majors in strikeouts. The second-year Pirates ace has opened as a big favorite, but who can challenge last year’s NL Rookie of the Year? There are some candidates. Let’s have a look to the fresh odds.
Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates +400
Paul Skenes finished third in Cy Young voting in his rookie season and now heads into 2025 looking to sweep major pitching awards. He struck out 170 batters in just 133 innings last season, leading to a K/9 of 11.5. Expectations are through the roof for Skenes, but this power pitcher is set to be a major player in baseball this season. This price could drop significantly if Skenes starts the season on fire.
Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers +750
Tarik Skubal’s Cy Young-caliber season saw a big jump in strikeouts as he finished with 228. His previous career single-season high was 164. He’s shown he has the stuff to contend for this category, but with Skenes around for a full season, it may be a tall order. Still, don’t count out the reigning Cy Young candidate.
Garrett Crochet, Boston Red Sox +850
While Skenes’ numbers were impressive, Garrett Crochet was even better. In his first season as a full-time starter, his stats included a K/9 of 12.9, which featured six double-digit strikeout games. The downside for Crochet this season is that he’s pitching in the AL East, a division known for its powerful offensive hitters.
