Odds MLB Hits Leader: Luis Arraez Still Favored For Most Hits in 2024
Reaching 200 major league hits will likely put a player in contention for the most hits in a
season. Last year, 3 players hit that mark with Ronald Acuna Jr. finishing on top with 217 hits.
Freddie Freeman and Luis Arraez the other two players to reach 200. So what kind of
production will be needed in 2024 to take the title? Can Acuna defend his title? Is there a dark
horse lurking at big odds? We’ll break down a few of the contenders and maybe a longshot or
two.
The Obvious Favorites
Luis Arraez, Miami Marlins +550
Luis Arraez is the favorite and for good reason. Arraez found a way to make contact often
during every at-bat. He finished with 203 hits, third best, but injuries forced him to miss 15
games. He was on pace for 223 hits, which would have been more than Acuna’s 217. He’s
considered one of the elite hitters, and a healthy season should have been near the top of the
leaders in the final weeks of the season.
Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves +750
The defending hits leader and reigning MVP crushed his previous career best of 175 hits in
2019 on route to the title last season. The 26-year-old is one of the premier ball players in the
Majors and will not only have his Braves in contention for a championship, but also chasing
back-to-back MVP nods. We should see big numbers from Acuna making him a top threat for
most hits in baseball.
Value Options
Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays (+950)
Since becoming a full time starter in Toronto all Bo Bichette has done is hit the darn ball. He led
the AL in hits in 2021 and 2022 and likely had a shot of leading the league last season but
injuries slowed him down. Bichette was on pace for 210 last season but injuries forced him to
his 27 games. The 25-year-old infielder posted 191, 189 and 175 hits in the last three seasons
and if he can bump his average from .306 to about .330 and stay healthy, he could finally lead
the league in hits
Sleeper Longshot Pick
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays (+6600)
It was a down season for Bichette’s teammate but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a chance to
rebound in 2024 and at these odds may be worth a flier. In his last three seasons he’s posted
188, 175, 159 hits but his batting average dipped last season to .264. Guerrero can contend in
this category but needs to reduce his walks (67) and strikeouts (100) in order to make a serious
run.
