Soto, Alvarez Favorites to Lead Majors in RBI at +750
Many players who are in the running for MVP, most home runs and hits are also at the top of the odds board when it comes to RBI. Any contender needs his teammates to get on board so he can cash in runs. Last season, Matt Olson led the league with 139 RBI which was the highest total in a dozen years. Usually a player needs to be around 120 RBI in a season to have a shot at leading the majors and last year only 3 players reached the 110 mark. We’ll take a took at some of the contenders and an ‘out of nowhere’ pick who could surprise at long odds.
Top Picks
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros (+750)
Over the course of his career, Yordan Alvarez averaged 128 RBI over a 162-game pace. In
482 games he’s compiled 380 RBI. Since entering the league the Astros slugger has been one
of the most productive hitters in baseball. It doesn’t hurt that his team has one of the deepest
rosters in the game. His biggest obstacle, staying healthy. In the last 3 seasons, he’s missed
an average of 31 games. For Alvarez to take this title he’ll have to set a career mark not only in
RBI but alo games played.
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees (+900)
After his MVP season in 2022 injuries plagued Aaron Judge last season yet he still managed to
post 75 RBI in 106 games, which works out to about 114 for a full 162-game pace. Biggest
thing for Judge is he has to play at least 150 games to have a legitimate shot. He has said
during the off-season he’ll have to manage his toe injury from last year making this a risky play.
The addition of Juan Soto should help as the slugger likely will hit in front of Judge. And Soto
can get on base often, not just with his bat. He’s led the majors the last 3 seasons in walks
drawn. That’s great news for Judge.
Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves (+950)
After leading the majors in RBI last season with 139 it’s a bit surprising to see Matt Olson with
the seventh best odds. The Braves led baseball in scoring and their lineup hasn’t changed
much. No player has gone back-to-back since 2015-2016 (Nolan Arenado) but for Olson to
have a shot his biggest challenge may come from his own teammates. Atlanta has the deepest
lineup in the league including MVP front runner Ronald Acuna Jr. who could take away potential
RBI from Olson. Still, he should be in contention to repeat.
A Real Longshot With A Shot
Alex Bregman, Houston Astros (+10000)
Alex BregmanThere’s not much to suggest Alex Bregman has a shot at this considering he’s
only gone over 100 RBI twice in his career back in 2018 and 2019. But he has eclipsed the 90
RBI mark the previous two seasons hitting on a very deep Astros lineup. Here’s why he may be
worth taking a shot. The third baseman will be an unrestricted free agent and will be looking for
a big payday on perhaps his last contract. With Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez hitting ahead of
him, maybe he can cash in at big odds.
