Which Pitcher Will Be The Strikeout King in 2024?
When it comes to player production futures, you can typically find some decent prices
depending on the category. Most Strikeouts by a pitcher, isn’t one of them. Although, if you
avoid going with the overwhelming favorite, you can find some tantalizing odds. Still, the top
choices are the players who also are favored in the chase for the Cy Young.
Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves (+195)
Spencer Strider has been a strikeout machine since 2022 when he threw 202 strikeouts despite
just pitching 131 innings in his first year as a starter. The right-hander followed it up in 2023
leading the league with 281 strikeouts in 186 innings, hence why he’s such a massive favorite.
And in the last two seasons Strider has led the majors in strikeout rate (38.3% in 2022 and
36.8% in 2023). The 25 year old had 44 more K’s than any other pitcher last season, and this is
why he’s the overwhelming favorite to go back-to-back.
Kevin Gausman, Toronto Blue Jays (+1200)
There’s a big gap between Strider and everyone else and Kevin Gausman, who led the
American League with 237 strikeouts, has a chance to dethrone the Braves ace in 2024.
Gausman has been in the top six in strikeouts for each of the last 3 seasons and the
right-hander registering the highest strikeout rate (31.1%) of his career when he’s pitched
100-plus innings.
Gerrit Cole, New York Yankees (+900)
Gerrit Cole offers some real value for the reigning Cy Young winner as he knows a thing or two
about leading baseball in strikeouts. The Yankees ace led the majors in 2022 and he’s been at
the top of the mountain in this category in two of the last four seasons. Barring injuries, Cole
should be in the mix into the fall.
Take A Shot With A Longshot
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Los Angeles Dodgers (+3300)
Rookie sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto comes to the Majors with some major hype and the
phenom could take the baseball world by storm, kind of like his teammate and countrymate,
Shohei Ohtani. He’s projected to throw over 200 strikeouts this season and arrives after
dominating NPB in Japan where in his final start he posted 14 strikeouts on his way out.
Japanese pitchers have shown they can throw in the Majors and at these odds it may be worth
a Saki Shot.
