The Biggest Line Moves Heading In To UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy

The countdown is on to one of the most highly anticipated MMA showdowns of the year in UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy. McGregor’s highly anticipated return to the Octagon is sure to drive Pay Per View numbers with everybody watching to see what he does next. Perhaps even more importantly, with the spotlight on UFC 246 there are some intriguing sports betting opportunities worth considering. By monitoring line movements, we can do a better job of predicting where the smart money picks are. Here is a look at the biggest line movement heading in to UFC 246.

CONOR MCGREGOR (21-4) VS. DONALD CERRONE (36-13)

OPENING ODDS: MCGREGOR -230
CURRENT ODDS: MCGREGOR -300

With so much focus on the main event, it’s no surprise that we have seen some significant line movement. Initially listed as a -230 favorite when the sportsbooks first released the odds for this event, McGregor has shifted all the way to a whopping -300 favorite. The reason for this is simple. The majority of experts have weighed in on the potential for McGregor to win this fight and do it fast. One of the most lethal strikers in the sport, McGregor’s incredible potential is usually downplayed because he is coming off a loss to one of the best to ever do it in Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, just because he lost to Khabib and has missed some time doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of knocking out an inferior opponent in Cerrone.

HOLLY HOLM (12-5) VS. RAQUEL PENNINGTON (10-7)

OPENING ODDS: HOLM -160
CURRENT ODDS: HOLM -130

If you are looking for some excellent value, you might want to consider Pennington as a potential upset pick. It seems like a lot of others are already thinking along those wavelengths. The 31-year-old is coming off a split decision win over Irene Aldana that snapped a two-match losing streak. While she hasn’t looked great, those two losses came against two very good fighters in Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie, so she can be forgiven for falling just short. Now she fights a veteran in Holm, who has lost three of her last five fights including a defeat at the hands of Nunes in her last bout. Holm was first introduced to the public at -160 odds, but that number has gone down to -130 because of the money that has come in on Pennington.

WOMEN FLYWEIGHT BOUT: ROXANNE MODAFFERI (23-16) VS. MAYCEE BARBER (8-0)

OPENING ODDS: BARBER -550
CURRENT ODDS: BARBER -1050

Unlike the other women’s bout, there isn’t much value in the odds for this fight following some substantial line movement. Barber was always the favorite to win at -550. It didn’t take long for her to move all the way to -1050 to win. This is the biggest line movement on the card so far.

LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT: DREW DOBER (21-9) VS. NASRAT HAQPAREST (11-2)

OPENING ODDS: HAQPAREST -230
CURRENT ODDS: HAQPAREST -320

The final line movement worth noting is another favorite that has become even more obvious after some significant line movement. Haqparest has shifted from -230 to -320, highlighting the substantial amount of money that has come in on the betting favorite.
