This week’s UFC event is one of the better ones as there won’t be a UFC promotion next week. Although former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz is no longer headlining the event, we will still see a very good main event as heavyweights Curtis Blaydes and Chris Daukaus square off. Top women’s flyweights Joanne Wood and Alexa Grasso will meet in the co-main event, and Askar Askarov will face Kai Kara France in a flyweight fight.
UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Daukaus will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2022, from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The entire card will be available on ESPN and ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET and the main event getting underway at 7 p.m. ET.
UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Daukaus Betting Odds and Picks
Chris Daukaus +360 vs. Curtis Blaydes
Curtis Blaydes has been one of the most impressive heavyweights since joining the UFC. His only losses have come against current champion Francis Ngannou (twice) and two-time title challenger Derrick Lewis. That has led to Blaydes being ranked fourth in the current heavyweight standings, and he has knocked out his opponent in 10 of his 15 wins.
He shouldn’t be this much of a favorite by the UFC betting odds on Saturday night though. Chris Daukaus is 4-1 since joining the UFC, and his lone loss came against Lewis. Daukaus earned three straight Performance of the Night bonuses for knockouts of Rodrigo Nascimento, Alexey Oleynik, and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
These heavyweights both have a lot of power, and they are going to go for early knockouts. It would be a surprise if this bout went into the third round, so this is a juicy price on an underdog that can knock out his foe.
Alexa Grasso vs. Joanne Wood to Go the Distance -280
Joanne Wood was 9-0 as an MMA fighter before joining UFC. She has struggled with tougher competition though, carrying a 6-7 record in the UFC into Saturday night’s showdown with Alexa Grasso. Wood was submitted by Taila Santos in the first round of her last fight, but fortunately her opponent is not a submission specialist.
Nine of Grasso’s 13 wins have come by decision. Nine of her last ten fights went the distance, so a decision is very likely in this bout. Neither Grasso nor Wood have a lot of power, and neither fighter has a submission win on their resume either.
Askar Askarov -365 vs. Kai Kara-France
This is a lot of chalk to swallow, but Askar Askarov is a superior fighter and should have no problem beating Kai-Kara France. Askarov is the No. 2 ranked flyweight in the world, and he is one of the next fighters in a long line of undersized powerhouses from Dagestan. He is carrying a 14-0-1 record into this bout, and he is a superb wrestler.
Kara-France was impressive in his first-round TKO of Cody Garbrandt at UFC 269, but he struggles against submission specialists. He does not have the same wrestling background, and he is likely to get punished on the mat.
