UFC on ABC: Ortega vs. Rodriguez Parlay
The top flight of MMA will be headlined on Saturday afternoon when this week’s UFC promotion is shifted over to ABC in order to draw in a bigger audience. UFC on ABC: Ortega vs. Rodriguez will feature two-time UFC Featherweight Championship challenger Brian Ortega facing Yair Rodriguez with a likely title shot against Alexander Volkanovski on the line. Ortega and Rodriguez are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the division, so the winner of this fight should get the next shot at the belt after Volkanovski beat No. 1 contender Max Holloway for the third time at UFC 276.
UFC on ABC: Ortega vs. Rodriguez will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on Long Island. The prelims will get started at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN+, while the main event will kick off at 2 p.m. ET on ABC.
UFC on ABC: Ortega vs. Rodriguez Picks
Yair Rodriguez +145 vs. Brian Ortega
Since joining the UFC in 2014, Yair Rodriguez has a record of 8-2-1. Rodriguez has been one of the most exciting fighters in the promotion, earning eight bonuses in his 11 fights in the UFC. His best win so far came against The Korean Zombie almost four years ago though, as he didn’t fight for almost two years due to injury, COVID, and a USADA suspension. Rodriguez lost a unanimous decision to Max Holloway in his most recent fight in November, but both fighters were given a Fight of the Night bonus for their display.
Brian Ortega has been the third-best featherweight in the UFC for quite some time. His only two losses have come against Holloway and Volkanovski, and he convincingly defeated The Korean Zombie, Frankie Edgar, and Cub Swanson. Ortega is a deserved favorite given his past performances, but there’s a lot to like about Rodriguez at this price. The underdog is three inches taller and holds a two-inch reach advantage with both his arms and legs. He also has fresher legs since he is two years younger than Ortega, but he has had plenty of seasoning.
Michelle Waterson Over Amanda Lemos by Points +400
We haven’t seen Michelle Waterson strike fear into her opponents in recent years. Waterson has lost three of her last four fights, and her lone win was a split decision victory over Angela Hill. That’s why Amanda Lemos is a substantial favorite per the UFC betting odds on Saturday, as Lemos has won five of her last six fights.
However, Lemos was soundly beaten by Jessica Andrade in her last fight, and none of those five aforementioned victories were against quality opponents. Her best win was also a split decision win over Angela Hill, making it a little surprising that Lemos is this much of a favorite. There’s a good chance that Waterson can win on points here, and the odds are extremely juicy.
Muslim Salikhov Over Jingliang Li by Points +160
The King of Kung Fu lost his UFC debut in November 2017, but he has been on a tear since that defeat. Muslim Salikhov has emerged victorious on his last five fights, as he has shown power with more than just his legs. Salikhov is a four-time world champion in Sanda, and that makes it very difficult for opponents to get inside on him.
Jingliang Li is going to have a hard time closing the distance. Salikhov will be able to land shot after shot with his legs, and he should be able to win a comfortable victory on the judges’ scorecards.
