Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm will headline the UFC card this week against Ketlen Vieira. Holm is 4-5 since claiming the title with a resounding win over Ronda Rousey, but she is still the oddsmakers’ choice against Vieira according to the UFC betting odds. The best bet this weekend though is Michel Pereira as a small favorite over Santiago Ponzinibbio, so let’s hope we can hit the parlay for the second week in a row.
UFC on ESPN: Holm vs. Vieira will take place from UFC Apex Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 21, 2022. This fight will only be available on ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET.
UFC on ESPN: Holm vs. Vieira Picks
Holly Holm -250 vs. Ketlen Vieira
One of the biggest names in women’s MMA over the last several years is Holly Holm. She was one of the greatest boxers of her generation before joining the UFC, and she was 9-0 as a professional MMA fighter before she faced Rousey for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship at UFC 193. Holm delivered one of the biggest upsets in MMA history with a second-round knockout of Rousey, announcing her presence with authority.
Unfortunately, Holm couldn’t dominate the other top women in the UFC. She lost her next three fights to Miesha Tate, Valentina Shevchenko, and Germaine de Randamie, and she also lost in title shots to Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes.
Holm has fallen into a familiar pattern. She is an elite fighter that can beat everyone except the very best fighters in the UFC. While Ketlen Vieira is talented, she isn’t at the same level as the fighters that Holm has lost to in the past, so it’s best to back the favorite.
Michel Pereira -142 vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio
There has been some movement in favor of Michel Pereira already, but he still has a good deal of value at this price. Pereira has won his last four fights, and he is now 5-2 in the UFC, while Santiago Ponzinibbio is not as strong of a fighter as he was a few years ago.
Ponzinibbio was one of the top welterweights in the late 2010s and seemed poised to challenge for a title after beating Neil Magny. However, he suffered a staph infection that kept him out of MMA for two years, and he has not been the same fighter since his return. He has lost two of his last three fights, and it’s hard to imagine him ever recapturing his form at 35.
Eryk Anders +179 vs. Jun Yong Park
These are two relatively evenly matched fighters, so Eryk Anders is worth a nod at this number. Anders is a former college football linebacker that was a latecomer to MMA, but he has proven to be tough and resilient. Guts can bring you a long way, and he has a good chance of knocking out Jun Yong Park.
