This hasn’t been a great year for the ACC. There are only two ranked teams in the conference heading into the ACC Tournament. The Duke Blue Devils have a chance to be a No. 1 seed, but the North Carolina Tar Heels are the only other team that is safely in March Madness after hammering the Blue Devils in Coach K’s last regular season game. Every other team is on the bubble, including teams like Wake Forest, Miami, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech.
The 2022 ACC Tournament will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York from March 8-12, 2022. The top four seeds will receive a double bye into the quarterfinals, giving Duke, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Miami a significant advantage.

Duke is certainly the team to beat entering the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils have one of the best players in the country in fabulous freshman Paolo Banchero, and he is leading Duke with 17.1 PPG and 7.7 RPG. This frontcourt has a lot of talent as Wendell Moore Jr. has improved dramatically as a junior, and A.J. Griffin is sinking 48.3% of his threes, but there are some questions about the backcourt.
We saw North Carolina play spoiler in Durham last Saturday, and the Tar Heels showed us what they can do with their starting five. Armando Bacot is one of the top big men in the nation, averaging 16.6 PPG and 12.5 RPG, while Oklahoma transfer Brady Manek gives the Tar Heels another big man that can crash the boards. The lack of depth could be a big issue though as the Tar Heels will have to win three games in three days, and Roy Williams doesn’t trust his bench.
Notre Dame may have finished with the second-best record in the ACC, but Ken Pomeroy ranks the Fighting Irish the 47th best team in the country. That places them in between Dayton and North Texas, so Notre Dame needs to win at least one game in the ACC Tournament despite going 15-5 in conference play during the regular season. This defense is not good at turning the ball over, and Notre Dame struggles to get second chances, making it best to stay away from the Irish at less than 10-1.
Tony Bennett is always going to make Virginia a frisky team in the NCAA Tournament. The Wahoos are likely going to miss out on March Madness after going 18-12 with some bad losses, but the Cavaliers did beat Duke in Durham and seemed to get better over the course of the season. Their offense runs at a glacial pace, and Virginia can make games ugly enough to squeak out low-scoring wins.
A real longshot to keep an eye on this week is Florida State. The Seminoles regressed significantly without Scottie Barnes to run the offense, and they lost eight of nine games at one point. However, FSU closed out the season with three straight wins and knocked off Virginia and Notre Dame in that run. This team also beat Duke earlier this year and has made it to the last two ACC Championship Games, so FSU is a quality choice at 40-1.
