2022 Big East Tournament Betting Odds

The Georgetown Hoyas made one of the most improbable Big East Tournament runs in recent memory last season. Georgetown was 13-13 and given the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament, so the Hoyas needed to claim the automatic bid in the Big East to make the NCAA Tournament. They hammered Marquette in the first round and squeaked past No. 1 seed Villanova in the quarterfinals to give themselves a shot. Then, they took care of business against Seton Hall before pasting No. 2 seed Creighton in the Big East Championship to make it to March Madness for the first time since 2015. It’s highly unlikely we see a repeat this year though as Georgetown is 0-19 in conference play and hasn’t won since December 15.

The 2022 Big East Tournament will be held at historic Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 40th straight season. Play will get underway on Wednesday, March 9, and run until the Big East Championship Game on Saturday, March 12.

Once again, Villanova is considered the team to beat by the oddsmakers heading into the Big East Tournament. The Wildcats aren’t the No. 1 seed though. Villanova is the No. 2 seed although the Wildcats beat Providence both times, as they lost both of their games against Marquette and also fell on the road to both Creighton and UConn. Jay Wright has this offense humming though, as Nova ranks sixth in offensive efficiency. The Wildcats are the best free throw shooting team in the nation too as Collin Gillespie has been rock solid as the team’s leader.

UConn is the No. 3 seed, but oddsmakers are also giving the Huskies a better chance of winning the conference tournament than Providence. The Huskies are ranked 20th by Ken Pomeroy’s numbers, and they are a strong all-around team that excels with interior defense. Adama Sanogo is averaging 15.3 PPG and 8.6 RPG, and both Sanogo and Isaiah Whaley are averaging over two blocks a game. Tyrese Martin is averaging 13.4 PPG and 7.6 RPG as a guard, and he is making 43.9% of his threes.

Providence only lost four games this season. The Friars have been the most fortunate team in the country though, as they are ranked outside of Pomeroy’s top 35 teams. In their last six games, they are 4-2, but three of those wins came in overtime. The only thing they are particularly good at on offense is getting to the free throw line, and this defense leaves something to be desired too. Still, it is tempting to bet on the No. 1 seed at 5-1 to win the Big East Tournament.

Although Creighton is the No. 4 seed and Marquette is the No. 5 seed, the Golden Eagles have much lower odds to win the Big East title than the Bluejays. The loss of Ryan Nembhard for the rest of the season is a big blow to Creighton, but at least this team still has Big East Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Kalkbrenner. They went 2-0 against Marquette in the regular season, so Creighton is worth a small play at 18-1.
