It’s fortunate for Les Miles that his resume as head coach at LSU will likely buy him some extra leeway as he tries to resurrect the dumpster fire that is the University of Kansas Jayhawks football team. So far in his short tenure they look as miserable as ever. Now they go from the proverbial ‘frying pan into the fire’ as they head to the road for the first time this season in what will be a very inhospitable setting at Boston College.
KANSAS AT BOSTON COLLEGE
LINE: BOSTON COLLEGE -21.5
TOTAL: 53
The University of Kansas is well known as a basketball powerhouse which is a good thing since they likely don’t want to be known for their football program. There might not be a large college program in the country that has been as consistently awful as the Jayhawks football program. Here’s some sobering context: Clemson University won 15 games last season. That’s more than Kansas has won in the past 7 seasons and counting. Their last winning season was in 2008–one of only three winning seasons since 1996.
Kansas is off to a 1-1 start this season though it doesn’t bode well for the rest of the campaign. They opened the year beating FCS Indiana State by 7, failing to cover as -9.5 favorites. They then lost to Coastal Carolina 12-7 as -7 point home favorites. It doesn’t get any easier from here with at BC, West Virginia, at TCU , Oklahoma and at Texas on deck. Boston College is 2-0 this season (1-1 ATS) as they opened the year at home against Virginia Tech and Richmond. With their only game on deck a trip to Rutgers on 9/21 (1-11 LY) and their next legitimate challenge against Wake Forest at home on 9/28 they’ll be completely focused on Kansas here. Kansas has covered 3 of their last 4 spots as an underdog of +21.5 to +31 points but as a road dog of 21.5 or above they’re on a brutal 16-31 ATS run.
Not much to suggest that Boston College will struggle to cover this price. After two games against what should have been overmatched teams, the Jayhawks rank #109 in total offense and #115 in scoring offense averaging 15.5 PPG. Les Miles may eventually ‘right the ship’ at Kansas but for now he simply doesn’t have the personnel to compete.
