Odds to Win National Championship As CFP Bracket is Finalized

The College Football Playoff bracket is set, and it’s wide open at the top of the betting board as Georgia, Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State are all under +550 to win it all. Can one of the underdogs go on a big run? Or will we see the cream rise to the top? Let’s take a look at the favorites and any surprise teams who could be trouble. Have a look at the latest odds

Georgia +360 Georgia needed overtime to get by the Longhorns and earned a much-deserved bye as quarterback Carson Beck was injured during the game but returned for the game-winning play. However, he could barely lift his arm. The rest will help Beck, but there is still no word on his status for the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs have the better draw, facing either Notre Dame or Indiana in the Sugar Bowl, and then Boise State, Penn State, or SMU if they advance to the final four.

Texas +360 For much of the season, Texas was on track for a first-round bye. Instead, a loss in the SEC title game has the Longhorns as a 5-seed, meaning they now have to play an extra game. That game is against Clemson, who surprised the college world by winning the ACC title. The Longhorns are double-digit favorites and will likely be heavy favorites against ASU. Could we see a third game against Georgia in the title game? It’s plausible.

Oregon Ducks +390 While they are the top seed and undefeated, the Ducks are actually the third betting choice. They were able to outlast Penn State in the Big Ten title game, but the path to their first-ever championship has major obstacles. Potentially standing in their way are Ohio State, then Texas, and finally Georgia if everything goes according to plan.

Ohio State +550 Another team destined for a bye stubbed its toe in a shocking loss to Michigan, which knocked them out of the Big Ten title game. OSU now draws a tough opponent in Tennessee at The Horseshoe. The Buckeyes still have one of the best overall teams in college football, and a win gets them a rematch against the Ducks, who they lost to by a single point. If OSU can get over that gutting loss to the Wolverines, they have a shot to make a run.

No. 6 Penn State

  • Record: 11-2
  • Round 1 Opponent: vs. SMU (-7.5)
  • Championship Odds: +600 (5th)

Penn State nearly took out the Ducks in the Big Ten championship and is one of the highest-ranked at-large teams. Both of the Nittany Lions’ losses were against CFP teams and were by a single possession. Penn State’s path to the semifinals is favorable, as games against SMU and then Boise State are much more desirable than other matchups.

Longshot

Arizona State +4000 ASU has been the Cinderella story this season. Many pundits had them finishing last, but instead, they won the Big 12. They are red-hot, winning six straight games and showing they are capable of continuing a dream run. Cam Skattebo has been on fire, running for 150 yards or more six times this season and scoring 19 touchdowns. However, the draw isn’t favorable as the Sun Devils likely get Texas in the quarters.

Boise State +4000 Boise State is the only Group of 5 representative and received a bye in the first round. The Broncos’ only loss came against Oregon, and it was by just three points. While they have the country’s leading rusher in Ashton Jeanty, the odds don’t favor Boise State. But if Jeanty runs amok, don’t count them out. The Broncos await either SMU or Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.
