Last season the New York Jets figured something out — they’re a good team, that could be a great team, but only if they had a decent quarterback. Too bad they’d wasted the No. 2 overall pick in 2021 on Zach Wilson, who was not that.
So, New York entered the offseason with a new focus and a new plan — trade for Aaron Rodgers and actually compete for something. It was such a compelling move that HBO’s Hard Knocks refused to even think about filming another team.
We all know what’s happened since.

New York Jets 2023 Odds
2023 AFC Championship Odds: +3300
Team Wins: Over 7.5 (+125), Under 7.5 (-155)
Well, what a couple of weeks the Jets have had here to open the season. While it’s taken me a while to get through these win predictions, when it comes to New York here, that’s not the worst thing. Aaron Rodgers made it all of four plays in their season opening victory (yes, a win) over the Buffalo Bills. A game in which the Jets would have blown out their AFC rivals and likely head to a division championship at the end of the year. None of that is happening now.
There’s a chance the Jets will look at a potential trade, maybe a lame duck Kirk Cousins with a Minnesota Vikings team that is likely heading to a .500-ish record, but I still think they should lean into Zach Wilson. Coach him up, with Rodgers’ help, and see what they have. That was “supposedly” the plan anyway even with a healthy A-Rodge. It’s why they kept Wilson and didn’t trade or cut him.
New York might have the best defense in the league, but that’s not going to be enough. Not unless Wilson figures it out, and, while that might happen, it’ll probably take a while.
2023-23 Win Prediction: 6-11
