Early Look At The 2023 NFL MVP Odds

The NFL MVP award has been given to the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in each of the last two seasons. However, it is starting to look like another challenger will come away with the hardware at the end of the upcoming NFL season. Here are four players that are among the top odds to win it.

Josh Allen (+700)

Josh Allen really launched himself up the odds for the NFL MVP award after an explosive 2021 campaign. The young Buffalo Bills quarterbacks is now considered one of the greatest young signal callers in the league right now. If it weren’t for a total defensive collapse in the Divisional Round of the postseason, Allen could have gone on to win a Super Bowl. He threw for 4,407 yards, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions throughout the year. Couple that with another year to develop and get better while having somebody like Stefon Diggs running routes for him and Buffalo will be a serious contender. MVP votes are usually what comes alongside incredible stats and a strong team record.

Justin Herbert (+1000)

If you are just looking at the stat sheet, then Justin Herbert has actually become criminally underrated. He threw for 5,014 yards, 38 touchdowns and 15 interceptions last season. Those are numbers that seriously rival Josh Allen. Herbert, unlike Allen and the Bills, didn’t have much team success. The Los Angeles Chargers put up a great fight but missed the playoffs entirely, likely factoring into him not being mentioned much. The Chargers now got a few excellent additions to their roster in the offseason and could finally contend for a Super Bowl. Hence giving Herbert some MVP conversations.

Patrick Mahomes (+900)

It is really starting to feel like Patrick Mahomes will be on this list throughout his entire career in the league. Even on a down year, Mahomes makes ridiculous plays seem like nothing. Last year, he threw for 4,839 yards, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while leading the Kansas City Chiefs to their fourth straight AFC Championship game. The loss of Tyreek Hill in the offseason definitely drops him a bit lower. Although he still has Juju Smith-Schuster and Travis Kelce to keep him afloat. It won’t be surprising to see the Chiefs look unbeatable at some point in the year, and Mahomes will certainly have the numbers to back up some possible MVP calls.

Joe Burrow (+1200)

We’ve mentioned it before, but team success plays a big part in the MVP race. That and the quarterback position more than anything. Joe Burrow wasn’t expected to turn around the Cincinnati Bengals franchise so fast, yet they made the Super Bowl last season. Burrow threw for 4,611 yards, 36 touchdowns and 14 interceptions when Ja’Marr Chase came to town. Cincinnati will need a lot to repeat what they did last year, though a lot of people will pay more attention to Burrow and the Bengals moving forward. That receiving core is still intact also. They are a team to look out for next year and Burrow, when healthy, makes them ten times better.
