Kansas City Chiefs 2024 Week 1 Opponent; Texans Favored +100
One of the bonuses for winning the Super Bowl, aside from the championship ring, is you get to
open the following season on Thursday night. Kansas City became the first repeat champion
since the 2003-04 New England Patriots. The Chiefs will open at home for the second straight
year, but who will be their opponent? KC will play 8 home games, against 8 different teams, so
we’ll try to rank which one makes the most sense for opening night at Arrowhead in September.
Houston Texans +100
Mahomes vs Stroud could be an AFC rivalry we see for the next decade. The two star quarterbacks haven’t met and the NFL could put this game in the spotlight on Thursday Night Football. The Offensive Rookie of the Year became the youngest quarterback to ever win a playoff game this past season and the team is full of budding young stars with Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Will Anderson Jr. It wouldn’t be a bad way to kick off the new season with fireworks between these two stud quarterbacks. And back in 2020, the Chiefs first game of the season after beating the 49’ers in the Super Bowl; the Houston Texans.
Baltimore Ravens +300
Why not kick off the season with a rematch of the AFC championship game. Lamar Jackson
won the MVP but couldn’t deliver a trip to the Super Bowl as the Chiefs defense smothered the
Ravens offense holding them to just 22:30 of possession time. The revenge factor would be
massive and not like the NFL would need it, but the ratings would be massive if this game
kicked off the 2024-2025 season.
Los Angeles Chargers +400
The Super Bowl champions vs the college national championship head coach wouldn’t be a bad
way to get things started in September. The Chargers made a lot of roster moves but bringing
in Jim Harbaugh was the biggest. Justin Herbert’s offenses have averaged 24.4 points per
game but been let down by his defense ever since he entered the league. It’s still a marquee
matchup between two of the elite quarterbacks, and adding Harbaugh into the mix makes it
even more tantalizing for the NFL to kick off with this game.
