Lamar Jackson Now -300 Favorite, According To NFL MVP Odds

The growing consensus around the NFL is that quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens will be the 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player. The NFL MVP odds show that he’s now at -300 while the rest of the pack is quite far behind him. However, it is not quite a done deal as Russell Wilson and others can still make a run in the final quarter of the season.

LAMAR JACKSON, BALTIMORE RAVENS
NFL MVP ODDS: -300

The Jackson candidacy is easily the strongest in the NFL. He has beaten the best and toughest teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks in the NFC (plus the Los Angeles Rams), and the New England Patriots and Houston Texans in the AFC. The one really good NFL team which has beaten the Ravens is the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Ravens have been the significantly better team since that loss.

On the year, Jackson is on pace for nearly 4700 yards and 43 touchdowns. He currently leads the NFL in QBR and his 25 touchdown passes are second. He’s also the NFL’s ninth-leading rusher, which is incredible.

The Ravens play the 9-3 Buffalo Bills this upcoming weekend in Buffalo and a bad performance and a loss – not just one, but both – could imperil the Ravens’ hold on a first-round bye in the playoffs. It would also open the door for someone else to swoop in for MVP. If not, though, Jackson pretty much has this on lockdown.

RUSSELL WILSON, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
NFL MVP ODDS: +275

There is no debate that Wilson is several notches below Jackson right now. Jackson is in the driver’s seat for this award but Wilson will get his chance to play his way into the award if Jackson loses to Buffalo and possibly loses a second game late in the season.

Wilson will play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, giving himself a platform on a national level. If he is brilliant in that game and Jackson loses badly to Buffalo, the MVP race will still be a question mark heading into the final three weeks of the season.

Wilson leads the league in touchdown passes (26) and has thrown just four interceptions. His 3,177 passing yards are significantly better than Jackson but he obviously isn’t there with the rushing yards. He’s close but he needs to play really well and for Jackson to stumble for him to have a shot.

PATRICK MAHOMES, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
NFL MVP ODDS: +2500

The odds are long for Mahomes, the defending MVP, and they should be. However, his candidacy is not quite finished. If Lamar Jackson is drilled by the Buffalo Bills, Russell Wilson loses to the Niners in Week 17, and Mahomes dazzles in the last four games of the season, this could still turn around.

However, Mahomes must beat the New England Patriots on the road this upcoming weekend to have any chance. This game gives him a great platform to shine. He’ll be in the feature game in the afternoon this weekend, playing in New England against a strong defense.

Remember that Mahomes missed time this year but still has 2,983 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and just two picks. If he can catch fire in the final four games – especially Sunday – he’ll have a shot to pull this off.
