MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL WEEK 14 GAME 2: GREEN BAY PACKERS AT NEW YORK GIANTS

BY ADAM GREENE

Yes, we get two Monday Night Football games this week and instead of staggering them, say starting one around 6 p.m. and the other at 8:15, we get them both at the same time. That means we’ll have to flip back and forth between the games without the dulcet tones of NFL Red Zone’s Scott Hanson guiding our way. It doesn’t feel right, but we’ll have to suck it up as the Green Bay Packers travel to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants.

This will be the 64th meeting all time between the Pack and G-Men, which seems low considering these are two of the NFL’s oldest franchises. Their first game was a 6-0 Giants win on Oct. 7, 1928 to put that into perspective. We don’t have stats from that game, but I assume Methusalah Enochson tackled Cain Adams on the final play of the game to keep Green Bay out of the end zone. That’s right, a deep cut Bible and surname joke for you. This is the kind of content I’m proudest to create.

Their last face off was on Oct. 9, 2022 with New York claiming a 27-22 victory. Daniel Jones (now out for the season) was 21 of 27 passing for 217 yards, no touchdowns and no picks in the loss. He rushed 10 times for 37 yards. Saquon Barkley had 13 carries for 70 yards and a TD. Darius Slayton had six receptions for 79 yards.

In the loss, Aaron Rodgers (now with the New York Jets and also out for the year) was 25 of 39 passing for 222 yards, two TDs and no picks. Aaron Jones rushed 13 times for 63 yards. Randall Cobb (now also with the Jets) hauled in seven passes for 99 yards.

GREEN BAY PACKERS (6-6)

The Packers come into Monday night off their biggest victory of the season, a shocking 27-19 upset of the Kansas City Chiefs that was never really in doubt. Jodan Love out-dueled Patrick Mahomes, finishing 25 of 36 passing for 267 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. He was sacked twice. AJ Dillon rushed 18 times for 73 yards. Romeo Doubs caught four passes for 72 yards. Christian Watson had seven receptions for 71 yards and two TDs. The defense sacked Mahomes three times and picked him off once.

NEW YORK GIANTS (4-8)

New York, led by rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, won their second straight a week ago, knocking off the New England Patriots 10-7 in a game that set NFL offense back about 60 years or so. DeVito was 17 of 25 passing for 191 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the win. He was sacked six times. Saquon Barkley rushed 12 times for 46 yards. Rookie Jalin Hyatt hauled in five passes for 109 yards. The defense picked off Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe three times and sacked them twice.

THE PICK

Green Bay has won three straight and four of its last five, including what could turn out to be an NFC North winning 29-22 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. Because, looking at their remaining schedule, the Pack might not lose again. Detroit can’t afford many more stumbles. And, yes, that’s discounting the G-Men’s chances here completely. Packers 27, Giants 16
