The undefeated Patriots are set to make their first Monday night appearance of the season and their third primetime appearance overall. So far, only one team (the 5-1 Bills) has come within one score of beating New England. That includes a 30-14 win over the Jets in Week 3 that wasn’t even that close. Things might be a little different this time, though. For starters, the Patriots will be without Josh Gordon, who has a knee injury. They also won’t have Michael Bennett, who is serving a suspension.
More importantly, the Jets will have Sam Darnold this time. The aforementioned loss came in former Jet Luke Falk’s first career start. Yes, though the game was just under a month ago, Falk is now a free agent. Darnold’s return should free things up for the entire offense. Still, a New York win would likely be considered the biggest upset of the season so far.
If you want a little money on the line, here are a few of our favorite props to consider.
WILL NE SCORE ON THEIR FIRST DRIVE (YES +133)
The Patriots had no trouble moving the ball on the Jets in their first meeting, scoring touchdowns on each of their first three drives. Darnold’s return will certainly help the Jets overall, but it won’t help their defense stop Tom Brady.
LE’VEON BELL HAS MORE RUSHING YARDS THAN SONY MICHEL (+152)
LE’VEON BELL 64 RECEIVING YARDS OR MORE (+171)
Bell has never beaten the Patriots, but he has had several impressive stat lines. In three regular season meetings with New England as a Steeler, Bell averaged 151 yards from scrimmage. The Patriots have one of the top run defenses in the league, so we’ll say the Jets try to get Bell involved through the air.
However, we’ll also say he gets more rushing yards than Michel. No one can ever predict how the Patriots might deploy their running backs. Though Michel is hot right now, he had season lows in attempts (9) and yards (11) when he faced the Jets the first time. Bell may not have to have a good game to rush for more yards than Michel. Not only that, but we get underdog odds. Give us Bell’s talents over the ever-changing New England backfield any day.
BRANDON BOLDEN 1 TD OR MORE (+250)
Bolden has now scored in three straight games. The hot streak is going to come to an end at some point, but at +250 it’s worth betting on Bolden getting another one.
JAKOBI MEYERS TO HAVE 80+ RECEIVING YARDS AND NE TO WIN (+600)
Since Josh Gordon is out, someone is going to have to take the number-two position opposite Julian Edelman. It could be Phillip Dorsett, who is questionable after missing New England’s last two games. We’ll go with Meyers. Meyers picked up 38 yards against the Jets when the receiving corps was healthy and totaled 54 last week when Gordon left in the first half. Gordon had 83 yards in the first meeting.
