NFL Coach Of The Year Race Betting Preview

It is about that time of the year when the current betting odds for the NFL Coach of The Year race come out. While there are a few known head coaches in the mix for the award this year, there are also a couple of first-time head coaches that have the potential to steal the award with their new teams. Let’s kick this list off with the current favorite to win the trophy, a man who happens to be with a brand-new team.

Brandon Staley

Brandon Staley was the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator just a season ago and now he is currently the favorite in the NFL Coach of The Year race. He decided to take over as the lead man for the Los Angeles Chargers, a team with loads of talent that just can’t seem to equate that talent into wins. Not only does he have the Offensive Rookie of the Year on his side, but he also has a number of talented weapons on either end of the field. If the team is able to start closing out some games and potentially make the postseason, Staley could be the easy choice for the award.

Kevin Stefanski

Even though Kevin Stefanski won the award at the end of 2020, he is in perfect position to grab the award for a second consecutive season. The Cleveland Browns took a noticeable jump in the rankings this year with Stefanski at the helm and given how they are projected to end 2021 with about 9.5 wins, chances are they exceed expectations again. Cleveland proved that they could compete with the rest of the powerhouses by stomping their rivals in the Wild Card Round and barely losing to the Kansas City Chiefs right after in the Divisional. Stefanski could get another big leap from Baker Mayfield, putting the Browns towards the top of the division once more.

Sean McVay

Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams had a bit of a disappointing season even though they made the postseason last year. The team didn’t seem like they were always on the same page and there were a lot of question marks floating around. However, they were able to grab Mathew Stafford from the Detroit Lions to lead their offense, a decision that could provide to be a massive boost to their team. With that type of veteran leadership and experience on their roster, they could end up getting over the hump and making another Super Bowl run.

Brian Flores  Brian Flores was one of those coaches that had a chance to win the award in 2020, had it not been for a rough end of the season along with some drama involving Tua Tagovailoa. However, he has a great chance to bring the hardware home with him by the end of the season. The team is expected to finish the year with just nine wins and given how many positive moves they made during the NFL Draft and the offseason; the expectation is that they will exceed that number. Probably the biggest question mark though will be the play of Tagovailoa. If he is able to outperform expectations and lead the Miami Dolphins to a few big wins, it could strengthen Flores’ case.
