NFL Fantasy Duds Week 8

We are in the heart of fantasy football season. This is the turning point for many teams and owners, as we have now seen two solid months of football. There are quite a few fantasy football stars that have emerged, but it’s also important to recognize the players that could be duds each week.

Baker Mayfield (QB) – Cleveland Browns

It’s been a tough season for Baker Mayfield. The former No. 1 overall pick has only thrown six touchdowns this year, and he has had some difficulty throwing the ball due to a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. Mayfield didn’t play against Denver last week in order to rest prior to this week’s showdown with Pittsburgh, but the Steelers have had two weeks to prepare for this offense. The run game isn’t as effective with Kareem Hunt injured, and Odell Beckham Jr. is not the difference maker he was in the past.

Khalil Herbert (RB) – Chicago Bears

Since taking over for the injured David Montgomery, Khalil Herbert has been a bit of a revelation for the Chicago Bears. Herbert has run for 272 yards and is averaging at least 5.0 YPC. He had success running against both Green Bay and Tampa Bay, but he was aided by garbage time in both of those games. San Francisco’s run defense isn’t that great on paper. However, the issues with the 49ers’ offense will prevent Herbert from accruing stats in garbage time.

Mike Evans (WR) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Evans is one of the best receivers in the league. However, he has had some issues getting open against Marshon Lattimore when the Buccaneers play the Saints. Lattimore has gotten into his head in the past, and he can bump Evans off his routes with his physicality. Evans’ YAC numbers aren’t great, and Tom Brady can find more success throwing to Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown. That will hurt Evans’ production in this game.

Mo Alie-Cox (TE) – Indianapolis Colts

If you’ve rolled the dice with Mo Alie-Cox over the last four weeks, you’ve been happy. He has just 10 receptions, but four of those catches were for touchdowns. That type of luck is definitely going to run out soon, and he has only been targeted 15 times in those four games. Alie-Cox is going to see his targets go down too now that T.Y. Hilton is back in the lineup.

Seattle Seahawks (D/ST)

This Seattle defense is not as strong of a play as you might think against Jacksonville this week. No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence has played much better over the last few weeks, and the Jaguars have had two weeks to prepare for this game. Seattle is on a short week after playing on Monday Night Football, and the secondary is not good. James Robinson is averaging 5.5 YPC and the Seahawks aren’t getting much of a pass rush, so the Jaguars could end up putting 30 points or more on the board.
